Periphyton density is similar on native and non‐native plant species [PDF]

open access: yesFreshwater Biology, 2017
Abstract Non‐native plants increasingly dominate the vegetation in aquatic ecosystems and thrive in eutrophic conditions. In eutrophic conditions, submerged plants risk being overgrown by epiphytic algae; however, if non‐native plants are less susceptible to periphyton than natives, this would contribute to their dominance.

Insight into the Phylogenetic Relationships and Evolutionary History of Indocalamus (Bambusoideae) Through Comparative Analyses of Plastomes

open access: yesHorticulturae
Indocalamus Nakai, a genus within the tribe Arundinarieae, has significant horticultural and economic value. However, its classification has long been challenging, and due to limited sampling, both intra- and intergeneric phylogenetic relationships, as ...

Invasion success of a global avian invader is explained by within-taxon niche structure and association with humans in the native range [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Aim To mitigate the threat invasive species pose to ecosystem functioning, reli- able risk assessment is paramount. Spatially explicit predictions of invasion risk obtained through bioclimatic envelope models calibrated with native species distribution ...

Nativeness is not binary—a graduated terminology for native and non-native species in the Anthropocene

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, 2022
With novel ecosystems becoming the norm, it is increasingly necessary to re-evaluate what is meant by “restoration.” An important aspect concerns which species are defined as native and, by extension, non-native. In order to better inform restoration actions, we have here devised a classification system of 10 graduated terms describing intermediate ...

New Combination and Two Synonyms of Indocalamus Nakai (Poaceae: Bambusoideae) from China Based on Morphological Characters and Phylogenetic Evidence

open access: yesTaxonomy
Based on several sources of evidence from morphology, the micromorphology of the abaxial leaf epidermis, and a phylogenetic analysis using complete chloroplast genome data, a new combination and two new synonyms are reported in the genus Indocalamus ...

Endophytic Bacteria From the Roots of the Medicinal Plant Alkanna tinctoria Tausch (Boraginaceae): Exploration of Plant Growth Promoting Properties and Potential Role in the Production of Plant Secondary Metabolites

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
Alkannin and shikonin (A/S) are enantiomeric naphthoquinones produced in the roots of certain plants from the Boraginaceae family such as Lithospermum spp. and Alkanna spp. They possess antimicrobial, anti-tumoral and wound healing properties.
