Facilitation of Natriuresis with Nifedipine in Normal Humans

Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, 1988
We tested the effect of dietary potassium (KCl, 20 mEq three times daily), calcium (Ca, 500 mg twice daily), sodium-potassium-dependent ATPase inhibition (digoxin), calcium channel blockade (nifedipine), and placebo on acute natriuresis in 14 normal subjects who received 2 L normal saline intravenously over 4 h.

Calcium-Induced Natriuresis: Physiologic and Clinical Implications

Calcified Tissue International, 2000
Assessment of the tubular reabsorption of calcium (Ca) by infusion is complicated by suppression of parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion, and by activation of the serpentine Ca sensing receptor in the renal tubule, which inhibits Ca and sodium reabsorption, but little is known about the magnitude of the natriuretic effect of Ca in human subjects ...

Exaggerated Natriuresis in the Course of Poststreptococcal Glomerulonephritis

Nephron, 1974
The response to rapid infusion of 2.5% saline solution was examined in 21 patients 1–15 years after an episode of acute poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis. 12 were normotensive and 9 hypertensive; 11 had minimal proteinuria; renal biopsies showed varying degrees of glomerular sclerosis in 9 and were normal in the remainder; filtration rates ranged ...

The Humoral Control of Saline Natriuresis

1978
The major problem under study is to elucidate the various mechanisms responsible for the fast adjustments of sodium excretion by way of a modulation of its overall tubular reabsorption. The message transmitted to the kidneys may reach them by three main ways: (a) hemodynamic changes (arterial and venous pressures, perhaps pulse pressure); (b) renal ...
