Abstract Introduction Addition of silicate rock powder (SRP) is an increasingly used measure to restore vegetation and fauna on acidified mineral‐poor soils in protected areas. In theory, however, the positive effects of SRP addition on vegetation may be offset by grazing and browsing ungulates attracted to higher‐quality forage.

Abstract Introduction Restoration of marine and freshwater wetlands for shorebirds is essential for the recovery of their declining populations. An ongoing approach is to restore shorebird habitats by large‐scale engineering, expecting the return of birds once suitable abiotic conditions are (re)established.

The report surveys the habitats (types of environment or vegetation) found in Norway, which are included in Natura 2000, a list of habitats considered endangered in Europe. Norway would be obliged to introduce conservation measures for these habitats if she was an EU member.
