Teakwood Chemistry and Natural Durability

2021
The intraspecific variability of teakwood generates different responses with industrialists in the timber and wood business. Several quality parameters are commonly employed when evaluating teakwood, although these factors are very intriguing, they do not account for all aspects of wood quality.

Durability of Natural Fibers for Geotechnical Engineering

Key Engineering Materials, 2014
Fibrous structures based on natural fibers have gained a key space when it is required to perform functions like separation, drainage, filtration, protection and soil reinforcement. The use of natural fibers turns engineering work more sustainable, since they are renewable, biodegradable, energy efficient and non-toxic raw materials.

Field Tests of Naturally Durable Species

Forest Products Journal, 2011
Six wood species generally accepted to represent a range of natural durability were exposed in American Wood Protection Association (AWPA) E7-09 (ground-contact) and AWPA E25-08 (aboveground) decay tests at field sites located near Maple Ridge, British Columbia, and Petawawa, Ontario, in Canada and Gainesville, Florida, and Hilo, Hawaii, in the United ...

Durability assessment of natural stone

Quarterly Journal of Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology, 2013
Durability is one of the most significant aspects of the behaviours of natural stone in the real environment. As it is not a fundamental property, it cannot be measured in situ or by using any simple laboratory test.

Durability of concretes containing natural pozzolan

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Construction Materials, 2008
In this study, the effects of tuff natural pozzolan on properties of Portland cement were investigated. The durability and mechanical properties of concrete made by these cements were studied. It was found that using the natural pozzolan does not significantly affect the mechanical properties of the Portland cement.

Natural Gas Converter Performance and Durability

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1993
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Natural gas-fueled vehicles impose unique requirements on exhaust aftertreatment systems. Methane conversion, which is very difficult for conventional automotive catalysts, may be required, depending on future regulatory directions. Three-way converter operating windows for simultaneous conversion of HC, CO, and NO&

The nature and durability of wood

1985
Before deciding whether or not to apply preservatives the properties of the timber in question must first be considered in relation to two important aspects. Firstly the durability of the wood must be ascertained and this depends to a large extent on its inherent resistance to fungal and insect attack.

Natural aggregates in the performance and durability of concrete: chemical characteristics

Geology Today, 2011
This article continues from the earlier feature in Geology Today (2011, v.27, n.4) and looks at the influence of chemical reactivity within concrete due to the presence of unsound aggregates or deleterious material incorporated in the aggregate used in the concrete mix.
