On Hölder Projective Divergences

open access: yesEntropy, 2017
We describe a framework to build distances by measuring the tightness of inequalities and introduce the notion of proper statistical divergences and improper pseudo-divergences.

Information Aggregation in Exponential Family Markets

open access: yes, 2014
We consider the design of prediction market mechanisms known as automated market makers. We show that we can design these mechanisms via the mold of \emph{exponential family distributions}, a popular and well-studied probability distribution template ...

Three Occurrences of the Hyperbolic-Secant Distribution

open access: yes, 2014
Although it is the generator distribution of the sixth natural exponential family with quadratic variance function, the Hyperbolic-Secant distribution is much less known than other distributions in the exponential families. Its lack of familiarity is due

Iron‐dependent lysosomal LDL oxidation induces the expression of scavenger receptor A in human THP‐1 monocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In human monocytic cells THP‐1, a limited uptake of native—not oxidized—LDL/VLDL induced expression of scavenger receptor A and cellular adhesion. Induction was inhibited by lysosomotropic (WR‐1065) and lipophilic (BHT) antioxidants and by siRNAs against ferritinophagy.

A method for assessing land-use impacts on biodiversity in a landscape

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation, 2015
Models that estimate land-use impacts on biodiversity at multiple spatial scales in human modified landscapes are the backbone of conservation planning.

Earthing effects on mitochondrial function: ATP production and ROS generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In contrast to sham and naive controls, grounded mitochondria not only exhibit significantly enhanced energy production but also demonstrate a remarkable reduction in membrane potential and oxidative stress. This suggests a profound improvement in mitochondrial health, presenting a promising avenue for therapeutic interventions.

The stochastic extinction and stability conditions for nonlinear malaria epidemics

open access: yesMathematical Biosciences and Engineering, 2019
The stochastic extinction and stability in the mean of a family of SEIRS malaria models with a general nonlinear incidence rate is presented. The dynamics is driven by independent white noise processes from the disease transmission and natural death ...

Associated Natural Exponential Families and Elliptic Functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This paper studies the variance functions of the natural exponential families (NEF) on the real line of the form \((Am^4+Bm^2+C)^{1/2}\) where m denoting the mean. Surprisingly enough, most of them are discrete families concentrated on \(\lambda \mathbb {Z}\) for some constant \(\lambda \) and the Laplace transform of their elements are expressed by ...

EEG Response to Sedation Interruption Complements Behavioral Assessment After Severe Brain Injury

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Accurate assessment of the level of consciousness and potential to recover in patients with severe brain injury underpins crucial decisions in the intensive care unit but remains a major challenge for the clinical team. The neurological wake‐up test is a widely used assessment tool. However, many patients' behavioral responses during
