Fracture toughness assessment of surface cracks in slender ultra-high-strength steel plates
Safe design against unstable fractures in load-bearing structures is crucial at sub-zero temperatures where the brittle fracture toughness can be unfavourable, especially for high-stress designs incorporating ultra-high-strength steels.

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Fracture characteristics from two reactivated basement fault zones: examples from Norway and Shetland [PDF]
Detailed analyses of fracture attributes developed in basement rocks associated with two, crustal-scale faults, have enabled the characteristics and evolution of the fracture system geometry to be documented quantitatively.

Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Fracture mechanics of volcanic eruptions [PDF]
Seismology is a key tool in the forecasting of volcanic eruptions. The onset of an eruption is often preceded and accompanied by an increase in local seismic activity, driven by fracturing within the edifice.

In this paper, we systematically examine the multiple scattering process of seismic waves at consecutive stages of the evolution of 2-D fracture population. Synthetic seismograms are computed using the pseudo-spectral method for elastic wave propagation,

Effects of creep recovery on the fracture properties of concrete [PDF]
To study the influence of creep recovery on the fracture properties of concrete, the pre-notched specimens were firstly subjected to three-point bending (TPB) loading at 60% peak load (Pmax) over 30 days.
