Frequency of metamerism in natural scenes [PDF]
Estimates of the frequency of metameric surfaces, which appear the same to the eye under one illuminant but different under another, were obtained from 50 hyperspectral images of natural scenes. The degree of metamerism was specified with respect to a color-difference measure after allowing for full chromatic adaptation.

The natural frequencies of masonry beams [PDF]
The present paper aims at analytically evaluating the natural frequencies of cracked slender masonry elements. The problem is dealt with in the framework of linear perturbation, and the small oscillations of the structure are studied under loaded conditions, after the equilibrium for permanent loads has been achieved.

Natural Frequencies of Human Corticothalamic Circuits [PDF]
The frequency tuning of a system can be directly determined by perturbing it and by observing the rate of the ensuing oscillations, the so called natural frequency. This approach is used, for example, in physics, in geology, and also when one tunes a musical instrument. In the present study, we employ transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to directly

Natural frequencies and the representation of risk [PDF]
To the Editor: The findings reported by Olsen and Gotzschel in a recent paper in The Lancet have re-sparked a heated controversy concerning the merits (or lack thereof) of mammography screening [1]. The dispute is not confined to the medical realm, but has political, economical, and ethical ramifications as well.

What are natural frequencies? [PDF]
Doctors need to find better ways to communicate risk to patients A 2011 Cochrane Review concluded that health professionals and consumers “understood natural frequencies better than probabilities.”1 A 2011 Annals of Internal Medicine article reported the opposite, that “natural frequencies are not the best format for communicating the absolute ...

Why frequencies are natural [PDF]
AbstractResearch in mathematical cognition has shown that rates, and other interpretations of x/y, are hard to learn and understand. On the other hand, there is extensive evidence that the brain is endowed with a specialized mechanism for representing and manipulating the numerosities of sets – that is, frequencies.

Nested Sets and Natural Frequencies. [PDF]
Is the nested sets approach to improving accuracy on Bayesian word problems simply a way of prompting a natural frequencies solution, as its critics claim? Conversely, is it in fact, as its advocates claim, a more fundamental explanation of why the natural frequency approach itself works?

The natural frequencies of muted circular drums. [PDF]
The natural frequencies of circular drum heads are calculated by the use of finite elements. The results for unmuted drum heads are almost identical to the well known analytical solution expressed in Bessel functions. Mutes of various sizes and shapes are used to stop a section of the head from vibrating.

Natural Frequencies of seiches in Lake Chapala
AbstractThis research presents an analysis of the frequencies and vibration modes of the structure of the superficial seiches of Lake Chapala using mathematical modelling and measurements. The HAMSOM model was run with wind fields from coastal meteorological stations and for different lake storage levels.
