Supply security in the European natural gas pipeline network

2012
Energy security of natural gas supplies in Europe is becoming a key concern. As demand increases, infrastructure development focuses on extending the capacity of the pipeline system. While conventional approaches focus mainly on source dependence, we argue for a network perspective to also consider risks associated with transit countries, by borrowing ...

Network modelling and prediction of retrograde gas behaviour in natural gas pipeline systems

International Journal of Engineering Systems Modelling and Simulation, 2016
As retrograde gases are transported through pipeline systems, retrograde condensation may occur. The presence of this additional liquid phase is responsible for additional pressure losses in natural gas surface production systems. Gases and liquids have markedly different routing behaviour when moving concurrently through a network system and the ...

A Hybrid Meta-heuristic Approach for Natural Gas Pipeline Network Optimization

2005
In this paper we propose a hybrid heuristic solution procedure for fuel cost minimization on gas transmission systems with a cyclic network topology, that is, networks with at least one cycle containing two or more compressor station arcs. Our heuristic solution methodology is based on a two-stage iterative procedure.

Application of SPS and TGNET in Natural Gas Pipeline Network Simulation

ICPTT 2009, 2009
SPS and TGNET are the two kinds of software commonly used in Natural Gas Pipeline Network Simulation. How to choose simulation software according to the actual situation is the question deserving our discussion. Through the use of the two softwares in a multi-gas sources natural gas pipe network static and dynamic simulation, we found that: the ...

Network flows modeling applied to the natural gas pipeline in Brazil

Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering, 2013
Abstract The use of natural gas during the last decades has been growing, and this trend will continue until 2030, according to the Brazilian energy plan issued by Ministry of Mines and Energy (2007a) . However, the capacity of transportation is one of the important elements of the supply chain in response to the distribution market. In this context,

Eurasian Natural Gas Pipelines: The Political Economy of Network Interdependence

Eurasian Geography and Economics, 2009
A noted American economist and specialist on the economies of the former Soviet Union presents the results of his research on the Eurasian network of natural gas pipelines. While the focus is on the political economy of network interdependence, the author covers in considerable detail the political significance of Russia's substantial market power and ...
