A graph neural network (GNN) method for assigning gas calorific values to natural gas pipeline networks

Energy, 2023
Calorific value metering offers unique advantages in the natural gas industry. Based on a graph neural network (GNN), this study proposes a method for metering the gas calorific value in natural gas transportation. Graph theory is introduced to consider the effects of physical topology and node properties in natural gas pipeline networks.

Unsteady natural gas flow within pipeline network, an analytical approach

Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering, 2016
Abstract The natural gas pipeline network (including distribution network) may be subjected to some extreme conditions such as pipeline rapture, sudden changed demand and etc. The behavior of natural gas pipeline network should be properly identified to prevent network failure and have continued pipeline operation under these extreme conditions ...

Research on transient composition tracking in natural gas condensate pipeline networks

Physics of Fluids, 2023
Offshore pipelines are hailed as the “lifeline” of an offshore oil and gas production system and are essential for offshore oil and gas development. Component tracing technologies for the oil and gas multiphase transmission pipeline networks need to be urgently developed to predict the fluid composition changes in pipeline networks. Instead of assuming

Analogical Approach for Optimizing Natural Gas Transmission Pipeline Network System

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
The increase in demand for natural gas in different sectors attracted different scholars in optimizing the operation and configurations of natural gas pipeline network (NGPN) systems. Even though there have been reports regarding the attempts of solutions for optimizing NGPN problems, the issues of NGPN regarding energy minimizations are not fully ...

Network modelling and prediction of retrograde gas behaviour in natural gas pipeline systems

International Journal of Engineering Systems Modelling and Simulation, 2016
As retrograde gases are transported through pipeline systems, retrograde condensation may occur. The presence of this additional liquid phase is responsible for additional pressure losses in natural gas surface production systems. Gases and liquids have markedly different routing behaviour when moving concurrently through a network system and the ...

Digitalizing Pipeline Network for Hydrogen-Blended Natural Gas Distribution Assessments

2024 IEEE International Workshop on Metrology for Living Environment (MetroLivEnv)
To digitise existing energy processes within urban environments is fundamental to achieving greenhouse gas emissions reduction and energy efficiency improvement. As the modernisation of Information Technology infrastructure progresses, it still presents challenges in modelling and forecasting the future demands for energy systems and infrastructure ...

Eurasian Natural Gas Pipelines: The Political Economy of Network Interdependence

Eurasian Geography and Economics, 2009
A noted American economist and specialist on the economies of the former Soviet Union presents the results of his research on the Eurasian network of natural gas pipelines. While the focus is on the political economy of network interdependence, the author covers in considerable detail the political significance of Russia's substantial market power and ...

A Hybrid Meta-heuristic Approach for Natural Gas Pipeline Network Optimization

2005
In this paper we propose a hybrid heuristic solution procedure for fuel cost minimization on gas transmission systems with a cyclic network topology, that is, networks with at least one cycle containing two or more compressor station arcs. Our heuristic solution methodology is based on a two-stage iterative procedure.
