A prospective natural-history study of coronary atherosclerosis.

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2011
BACKGROUND Atherosclerotic plaques that lead to acute coronary syndromes often occur at sites of angiographically mild coronary-artery stenosis. Lesion-related risk factors for such events are poorly understood.

The Idaho Virtualization Laboratory 3D Pipeline

open access: yesVirtual Archaeology Review, 2014
Three dimensional (3D) virtualization and visualization is an important component of industry, art, museum curation and cultural heritage, yet the step by step process of 3D virtualization has been little discussed.

Identification of snails within the Bulinus africanus group from East Africa by multiplex SNaPshotTManalysis of single nucleotide polymorphisms within the cytochrome oxidase subunit I [PDF]

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2002
Identification of populations of Bulinus nasutus and B. globosus from East Africa is unreliable using characters of the shell. In this paper, a molecular method of identification is presented for each species based on DNA sequence variation within the ...

The natural history of progressive fibrosing interstitial lung diseases

open access: yesRespiratory Research, 2019
A proportion of patients with certain types of interstitial lung disease (ILD), including chronic hypersensitivity pneumonitis and ILDs associated with autoimmune diseases, develop a progressive fibrosing phenotype that shows similarities in clinical ...

A simple necessary decoherence condition for a set of histories [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Lett. A 326, 307 (2004); with minor changes., 2004
Within the decoherent histories formulation of quantum mechanics, we investigate necessary conditions for decoherence of arbitrarily long histories. We prove that fine-grained histories of arbitrary length decohere for all classical initial states if and only if the unitary evolution preserves classicality of states (using a natural formal definition ...

Digitization and the Future of Natural History Collections

open access: yesBioScience, 2019
Natural history collections (NHCs) are the foundation of historical baselines for assessing anthropogenic impacts on biodiversity. Along these lines, the online mobilization of specimens via digitization—the conversion of specimen data into accessible ...

Parallel dynamics and computational complexity of the Bak-Sneppen model [PDF]

open access: yesPhysica A300, 245-270 (2001), 2001
The parallel computational complexity of the Bak-Sneppen evolution model is studied. It is shown that Bak-Sneppen histories can be generated by a massively parallel computer in a time that is polylogarithmic in the length of the history. In this parallel dynamics, histories are built up via a nested hierarchy of avalanches.

Abyssal fauna of polymetallic nodule exploration areas, eastern Clarion-Clipperton Zone, central Pacific Ocean: Annelida: Capitellidae, Opheliidae, Scalibregmatidae, and Travisiidae [PDF]

open access: yesZooKeys, 2019
We present DNA taxonomy of abyssal polychaete worms from the eastern Clarion-Clipperton Zone (CCZ), central Pacific Ocean, using material collected as part of the Abyssal Baseline (ABYSSLINE) environmental survey cruises ‘AB01’ and ‘AB02’ to the UK ...

Epidemiology and Natural History of Eosinophilic Esophagitis.

open access: yesGastroenterology, 2017
Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) has emerged over the past 2 decades as a major cause of upper gastrointestinal morbidity. Over this time, the epidemiology of EoE has also rapidly evolved.

Primary extranodal diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma: Molecular features, treatment, and prognosis

open access: yesAging and Cancer, Volume 3, Issue 3-4, Page 133-146, September-December 2022., 2022
One‐third of DLBCL arises from extranodal organs and is challenging to manage. Molecular features are critical to elucidate the differences in clinical features, predict the disease prognosis, and improve effective targeted therapeutic strategies. Abstract Diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common subtype of non‐Hodgkin's lymphoma and ...
