Design of a Multistable Finger Prosthesis with Programmable Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This research article shows the development of a multistable programmble metamaterial for the use as a finger prosthesis. The material was designed on different hierarchical levels where the influence of geometrical parameters and combination of mechanical elements was explored.

Fabrication Routes for Ionic Conducting Fiber Strain Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic conducting fiber strain sensors (ICFSs) offer compliant, textile‐integrable sensing. Thus far, the commercialization of ICFSs has been constrained by fiber fabrication routes. This review provides a fabrication‐centric analysis of ICFSs correlating processing strategies with material properties and scalability.

Investigating the Low‐Temperature Phase Stability of the Binary Ta–W System

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Atomistic simulations show that the binary Ta–W system forms ordered intermetallic phases, B2‐TaW and D03‐TaW3, as 0 K ground states. Configurational entropy, however, lowers the free energy of the disordered bcc solid solution, which becomes the stable phase above about 400 K.

Cryogenic Deformation Behavior of TiAl and Insights Into Embrittlement After High‐Temperature Exposure Combined With Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy of Near Surface Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Near‐surface deuterium enrichment profiles for different microstructural types of TiAl after exposure at 700 °C in a heavy water‐containing environment. The deuterium levels are significantly higher than expected from natural occurrence, indicating that the heavy water dissociated during the exposure treatment and entered the specimens.

ICT support for promotion of nature park

2017 40th International Convention on Information and Communication Technology, Electronics and Microelectronics (MIPRO), 2017
Around the World and particularly in the Europe the conservation of the habitats becomes more important. For that reason, the project of connecting nature and people in Europe promotes the European Green Belt that stretch across 12500 km. A part of that European Green Belt is also the three state nature park (Goricko-Raab-Orseg) spanning Slovenia ...

The planned nature parks of the Baikal natural territory.

География и природные ресурсы, 2020
This article discusses the tasks and features of the organization of nature parks within the boundaries of the Baikal Natural Territory, the phenomenon of which is reflected in Russia’s only federal law of a natural site, Lake Baikal, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site and the main purpose of which implies not only natural environment conservation ...

Natural history museums, parks, and connection with nature

Museum Management and Curatorship, 2014
Experiences in natural settings, and indirect nature experiences such as films, increase both well-being and environmentally protective behavior. Thus, public facilities such as natural history museums may facilitate pro-environmental behavior changes.

Tourism and Sustainability in Natural Parks

International Journal of Social Ecology and Sustainable Development, 2021
Tourism growth has led to a number of environmental damages, with the degradation of the natural heritage, and tourist taxes have become popular to address these environmental problems. This study aims to ascertain if tourists are aware of sustainable tourism issues and willing to pay more for sustainable destinations.

Park improvements and park activity: a natural experiment.

American journal of preventive medicine, 2012
Parks are an important setting for leisure-time physical activity. Understanding how to attract residents to parks and encourage park users to be physically active is an important public health initiative. Natural experiments are a research priority for investigating whether changes to the physical environment affect physical activity; however, natural

Measuring Tourism in Natural Parks

2020
Official statistics does not capture the whole volume of tourism, particularly in natural parks without physical boundaries to enter and count visitors. For this reason, the aim of this paper is to use and adjust data from mobile tracking to estimate the size of unmeasured tourism.
