Fast natural regeneration in abandoned pastures in southern Amazonia
Forest Ecology and Management, 2016Abstract Abandoned pastureland provides a prime opportunity for forest recovery of these degraded areas in the Amazon. Many factors impact forest regeneration, including time and intensity of pasture use before abandonment, and proximity of a source of propagules.

Radiocesium uptake in reindeer on natural pasture
Science of The Total Environment, 1989In an experiment initiated after the Chernobyl accident, a herd of reindeer was followed before and after a temporary move from a highly contaminated area (greater than 20 kBq 137 Cs/m2) to a less contaminated area (less than 3 kBq 137Cs/m2) of natural pasture.

Grazing management of natureal pastures at Trangie, NSW
Australian Journal of Agricultural Research, 1956Results of a 5-year grazing experiment on Stipa-Chlaris natural pasture are presented. Treatments were three rates of stocking each tested with continuous grazing, autumn deferment, and spring deferment. These were studied in relation to: (a) body weight and wool production of Merino wethers; (b) available feed; (c) density and basal area of the ...

Natural intoxication caused by protodioscin in lambs kept in Brachiaria pastures
Tropical Animal Health and Production, 2021Protodioscin poisoning of Brachiaria spp. has been a serious problem for lambs in grazing systems. The defoliation process can stimulate the appearance of new leaves and, the younger leaves have a lower concentration of protodioscin. Thus, it was aimed to assess the effect of different leaf offerings on the protodioscin content in forage and if ...

Management of natural Kentucky bluegrass-white clover pasture
American Journal of Alternative Agriculture, 1997AbstractManagement recommendations are needed f or low-input (no N fertilizer) Kentucky bluegrass-dominant/white clover swards, particularly to increase or maintain white clover content. We applied treatments involving different amounts of forage present pre- and postgrazing, with and without harrowing and soil aeration, to a well-established ...

Autecology of some natural pasture species at Trangie, N.S.W.
Australian Journal of Botany, 1954Features of the autecology of four native perennial grasses (Stipa, Chloris, and Digitaria spp.) and an important group of winter annual species are reported from a 5-yr study of a naturaI pasture at Trangie, N.S.W. The investigation was mainly concerned with the response of the species to changes in seasonal climatic conditions. The study period (1948–

Domesticating Shrubby Native Legumes for Pastures and Natural Grasslands
2018As ruminant species diversify in natural and managed ecosystems in an effort to increase production, so does the need for greater plant diversity. Legume shrub propagation is rarely targeted for this purpose. As an example, the wide range of native perennial, shrub (0.5–3 m) legumes in Texas indicates untapped potential for multiple uses such as forage,

Natural pasture community response to enriched carbon dioxide atmosphere
Plant Ecology, 1998We examined the response of a pasture community in southern Quebec (Canada) to long-term exposure of enriched atmospheric CO2 conditions. The study was conducted using open-top growth chambers directly placed on top of the natural pasture community.

Seasonal recovery of Eimeria oocysts from soil on naturally contaminated pastures
Parasitology Research, 2013Though Eimeria is an important parasite of cattle, research is lacking on how the parasite persist in the pasture soils. In this study, feces samples were collected from three pastures in June and October 2010 and soil samples in April 2011. Coordinates of sampling locations were recorded with Global Positioning System together with information about ...
