The Impact of DNA as a Chemical Admixture for Cementitious Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 15, August 7, 2025.
DNA molecules are added to cement pastes and their effects on rheology and hydration time are studied. DNA's chemical structure is composed of polysaccharide and phosphate groups, which are active functional groups in different commercial chemical admixtures: Viscosity modifiers and superplasticizers.

Coupled Paleomagnetism and 40Ar/39Ar Dating of Latera Ignimbrites (Vulsini Volcanic District, Italy) Unravel Processes Associated to Piston‐Collapse Calderas

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 130, Issue 8, August 2025.
Abstract Correlation of ignimbrite units at polygenic calderas is mandatory for the reconstruction of caldera‐forming events and proper identification of their eruption dynamics. However, ignimbrites erupted at different times from the same caldera can display similarities in composition and lithology that can hamper proper correlation of outcrops ...

Mordenite from Spain and its application as pozzolana [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In Spain, natural zeolites have been only found in the volcanic areas of Canary Islands (San Gil, M.M., 1959). However, several years ago the study of the South Eastern region of continental Spain (Cabo de Gata) revealed the presence of a deposit of ...

Application of low‐emission cement CEM II/C in concrete made with low‐effort processed recycled aggregates

open access: yesStructural Concrete, Volume 26, Issue 3, Page 2881-2899, June 2025.
Abstract The present study investigates the applicability of recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) for use in structural concrete made with low‐emission cement CEM II/C‐M (global warming potential of 377 kg CO2,eqv.). The aim is to show the potential of RCA processed with minimal energy, water, and economic expenditure.

Advancements in Self‐Compacting Concrete Reinforced With Basalt Fiber: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 7, Issue 5, May 2025.
Self‐compacting concrete is widely used in the construction industry in which adding basalt fibers exhibits comparable resistance to energy absorption, with an efficacy of around 40% and resists crack propagation. This review paper emphasizes the key characteristics of various properties, including fresh, mechanical, impact, and elevated temperature ...

Control of Concrete Segregation and Quality Enhancement Using Continuous Mixer Units

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Managing concrete segregation during transportation and pouring at construction sites is posed as a substantial challenge. The utilization of continuous mixer units to address segregation and enhance the quality of concrete is discussed in this paper. These mixer units were tested in both horizontal (M–Y mixer) and vertical (ESG mixer) setups.
