Natural radionuclide distribution in soils of Gudalore, India
Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2000The concentration of primordial radionuclides in soil samples of Gudalore Taluk in the Udagamandalam district has been measured from the gamma ray spectrum of the soil. The mean activities of 232Th, 238U and 40K are 75.3 +/- 44.1, 37.7 +/- 10.1 and 195.2 +/- 85.1 Bq kg-1 dry weight, respectively.

Adsorption of natural radionuclides on pyrolusite
Water, Air, and Soil Pollution, 1987Analysis of Ra, Th, and Po in water samples and low active effluents from a U mining and milling complex generally involves pre-concentration of samples carried out by co-precipitation or by evaporation. This paper describes an alternative method by way of adsorption of these radionuclides on pyrolusite pebbles in a column and their subsequent elution ...

Activity size distribution of some natural radionuclides
Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2013In this study, the results concerning the activity size distribution of the long-lived ((210)Pb) radon decay product aerosols and the thoron decay product aerosols ((212)Pb) and ((7)Be) of the outdoor atmosphere are presented. Also, the mass size distribution of the aerosol particles is determined.

Natural radionuclides in electronic waste: an initial approach
Environmental Technology, 2017Some radionuclides are present in trace amount in the raw material of electronic devices that suffer obsolescence and are improperly disposed of. Obsolete personal computers become electronic waste and may contain potential environmental contaminants. Furthermore, there may be an additional concern: the ionizing radiation emission.

Environmental effects of radionuclides - observations on natural ecosystems
Journal of Radiological Protection, 2000To better quantify risk to non-human species from exposure to environmental radioactivity, understanding of the behaviour of radionuclides in the biosphere needs to be increased. This study outlines current thinking on ecological risk assessment (ERA) methodology and applies the indicator species or critical groups approach to biota inhabiting a semi ...

Natural radionuclides in volcanic activity
Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2003Abstract Natural radionuclides of 222 Ra, 210 Pb and 212 Pb present in the magma are emitted during the eruption of volcanoes. Depletion of 222 Rn in pumices and in lava showed that significant amounts of 222 Rn were released from erupting magmas. Atmospheric 210 Pb originating from the 1991 eruption of Mt. Pinatubo was detected in Japan and in

Natural and anthropogenic radionuclides in the rivers of Azerbaijan
Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry, 2008In the frame of an International Atomic Energy Agency Technical Cooperation project, a radiological survey was performed in the Araks and Kura Rivers (Azerbaijan). Sediment samples, and where available, aquatic plants were collected along these two rivers and their inflow and tributary rivers.
