Black Rubber and the Non-linear Elastic Response of Scale Invariant Solids [PDF]
We discuss the nonlinear elastic response in scale invariant solids. Following previous work, we split the analysis into two basic options: according to whether scale invariance (SI) is a manifest or a spontaneously broken symmetry. In the latter case, one can employ effective field theory methods, whereas in the former we use holographic methods.

Rubber plantation labor and labor movements as rubber prices decrease in southern Thailand [PDF]
A decrease in rubber prices can initiate labor migration trends from rubber production to industrial or service sectors, which could further cause labor shortages in rubber production.

Sealing is at the Origin of Rubber Slipping on Wet Roads [PDF]
Loss of braking power and rubber skidding on a wet road is still an open physics problem, since neither the hydrodynamical effects nor the loss of surface adhesion that are sometimes blamed really manage to explain the 20-30% observed loss of low speed tire-road friction.

Strain induced strengthening of soft thermoplastic polyurethanes under cyclic deformation [PDF]
We investigate the cyclic mechanical behavior in uniaxial tension of three different commercial thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers (TPU) often considered as a sustainable replacement for common filled elastomers. All TPU have similar hard segment contents and linear moduli but sensibly different large strain properties as shown by X-Ray analysis ...

Giant barocaloric effects in natural rubber: A relevant step toward solid-state cooling [PDF]
Solid-state cooling based on i-caloric effects has shown to be a promising alternative to the conventional refrigeration devices. Only very recently, the research on barocaloric materials is receiving a deal of attention due to the demonstration of giant barocaloric effects in shape-memory alloys. Regarding polymers, there is still a lack of literature,

Anisotropic layer-by-layer carbon nanotubes/boron nitride/rubber composite and its application in electromagnetic shielding [PDF]
Multifunctional polymer composites with anisotropic properties are attracting interests as they fulfil the growing demand of multitasking materials. In this work, anisotropic polymer composites are fabricated by combining the layer-by-layer (LBL) filtration method with the alternative assembling of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and hexagonal boron nitride ...
