Performance of ventilator components for natural ventilation applications

Building and Environment, 2006
Abstract This paper describes a series of laboratory experiments that investigated the airflow interactions that take place between components in louvered ventilators. The context of the work was to improve the design and performance of ventilators used in natural ventilation systems in buildings.

Natural Ventilation Potential of Urban Buildings

International Journal of Ventilation, 2005
The design of a building should provide the flow paths needed for natural ventilation. Therefore, the decision to apply natural ventilation should be taken early in the building design process, when little information is available for airflow estimation.

On the aerodynamics of natural ventilators

Building and Environment, 1984
Abstract The performance of natural ventilators subjected to the action of a free stream are experimentally investigated by using the method of Baturin. To analyse experimental data a mathematical model of the extraction characteristics is introduced.

Natural and Mechanical Ventilation

1996
It is a well-known fact that hot air rises and that its place is then taken up by colder air. This natural effect occurs because the density (mass/unit volume) of the rising column of hot air is less than that of the falling column of cold air. This process in its continuously operating mode is encountered in any naturally vented enclosure and also in ...

Ventilation shaft to increase effectiveness of natural ventilation

2012
Ventilation shafts can aid natural ventilation in buildings. Natural ventilation provides ventilation for occupants that can provide thermal comfort conditions. This study attempts to increase air flow rates, which can provide thermal comfort conditions, in occupant spaces of a low rise commercial building by using a ventilation shaft.
