Natural weathering of geosynthetics in Portugal
2009This paper reports research about the resistance of geosynthetics against weathering. Several geotextiles, geonets and geomembranes were exposed to natural weathering conditions in Portugal. The degradation suffered by the geosynthetics was evaluated by tensile tests and by scanning electron microscopy.

Long‐term natural weathering of coated ThermoWood
Pigment & Resin Technology, 2000Heat treatment reduces hygroscopicity and accompanying dimensional changes in wood. Prior to coating, pine and spruce boards were heat treated at 225°C for six hours under steam, in order to achieve dimensional stability and durability of wood substrate.

Microdenticles on naturally weathered hornblende
Applied Geochemistry, 2011Abstract Microdenticles (with lengths in the micron-submicron range rather than tens of microns) are developed on the lateral surfaces of larger “classic” denticles on naturally weathered hornblende from weathered amphibolite of the Carroll Knob Complex in western North Carolina.

This paper examines the effect of weather shocks on violent crime using disaggregated data from Brazilian municipalities over the period 1991-2015. I document that adverse weather shocks in the form of droughts lead to a significant increase in violent crime, with the effect appearing to persist beyond the growing season and over the medium run.

Just-in-time weather in the synthetic natural environment
SMC 2000 Conference Proceedings. 2000 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics. 'Cybernetics Evolving to Systems, Humans, Organizations, and their Complex Interactions' (Cat. No.00CH37166), 2002Military mission rehearsals and virtual prototypes increasingly rely upon combat simulations to predict feasibility and success. The current US force projection doctrine requires these operations to be conducted anywhere, anytime, and under any conditions.

Controlled Temperature Natural Weathering
2008The development of new or improved products necessarily requires meeting a wide range of economic, operational, and performance criteria. Each presents its own difficulties but issues involving durability carry the added problem of a long time scale and thus become a potential bottleneck in bringing products to the marketplace.

Experimental study of a naturally weathered stiff clay
Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 2016Studying the shear strength of a naturally weathered clay is important to understand rain-induced slope failures in weathered soils. However, experimental studies on naturally weathered soils are limited. The paper focuses on the laboratory experimental investigation carried out to analyse the shear strength of a naturally weathered stiff clay that ...

Natural and artificial weathering of polymers
Polymer Degradation and Stability, 1989Abstract Weathering parameters, methods of measurement and the principles of accelerated testing are described and discussed. The main factors which influence weathering, including solar radiation, heat, humidity, oxygen and industrial pollution, are considered in detail.
