Weathering indicator for artificial and natural weathering of wood coatings

European Journal of Wood and Wood Products, 2014
The aim of the present study was to find and develop a sensor to evaluate the weathering rates of wood coatings during natural and artificial weathering using a material of known and controlled rate of decomposition. This was achieved by the use of a coating based on poly (vinyl acetate) copolymer binder in combination with Fe2+ as redox catalyst.

Sustainable Materials by Mimicking Natural Weathering

ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, 2020
The chemical weathering of silicate rocks is of significance to decipher the interaction between minerals and fluids in lithospheric evolution, and a sufficient utilization of this knowledge is hel...

Microdenticles on naturally weathered hornblende

Applied Geochemistry, 2011
Abstract Microdenticles (with lengths in the micron-submicron range rather than tens of microns) are developed on the lateral surfaces of larger “classic” denticles on naturally weathered hornblende from weathered amphibolite of the Carroll Knob Complex in western North Carolina.

Artificial and natural weathering of ABS

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2010
AbstractAcrylonitrile‐butadiene‐styrene (ABS) is a complex copolymer with exceptional importance in technological applications. However, ABS is known to present a high susceptibility to weathering when exposed to UV radiation in the presence of oxygen. In this work, photodegradation of ABS was studied under natural and accelerated conditions.

Weather Normalization and Natural Gas Regulation

The Energy Journal, 1985
The residential demand for natural gas is the subject of two recent articles in this journal.' Each used pooled time-series/cross-section data to estimate price and income elasticities as well as other relationships that determine the quantity of natural gas consumed by individual households or groups of households.

Natural weathering of styrene–butadiene modified bitumen

2011
This chapter reports on the long-term weathering of 12 bituminous sealants that contain thermoplastic elastomers, namely block copolymers of polystyrene and polybutadiene. The goal of the work was to determine the rate and mechanisms of sealant weathering so that future accelerated aging tests could be developed.

Natural Textures for Weather Data Visualization

Tenth International Conference on Information Visualisation (IV'06), 2006
In this paper we present a novel method to visualize weather data with multi-layer controllable texture synthesis. Texture possesses multiple principal perceptual channels, which makes it good at encoding multiple data attributes contained in weather data. The natural textures existed in the real world especially provide plenty of choices to encode the

Dissolution of olivine during natural weathering

Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, 2009
Abstract Naturally weathered olivine occurring as phenocrysts in Hawai’ian volcanic rocks from several volcanic centers and regolith/outcrop settings, and as tectonized olivines from several metadunite bodies in the southern Appalachian Blue Ridge, are all similarly corroded by natural weathering. Conical (funnel-shaped) etch pits occur as individual

Natural Weathering Rates of Silicate Minerals

2014
This chapter presents (1) the development of rates that quantitatively describe silicate mineral and rock weathering, (2) a summary of the available literature rate data for the weathering of several common silicate minerals, and (3) a discussion of the chemical, physical, and hydrologic processes that control silicate mineral weathering at the Earth's

Natural and artificial weathering of polymers

Polymer Degradation and Stability, 1989
Abstract Weathering parameters, methods of measurement and the principles of accelerated testing are described and discussed. The main factors which influence weathering, including solar radiation, heat, humidity, oxygen and industrial pollution, are considered in detail.
