Abstract Many non‐native plant species introduced by humans have become naturalized. At the same time many species are threatened in their native range. However, the number of plant species threatened in their native range that are naturalized elsewhere remains unknown.

In this paper I analyze Malcolm Budd’s “aesthetic” approach to nature that claims that the right way to appreciate nature is “as being nature” and not as being art. I study his dependence on Kant’s free beauty and I try to show that free beauty is a theoretical device derived from the unavoidable dependent beauty.
