In 1602 the Dutch “Oost-Indische Compagnie”; (East Indian Company) was founded, in 1621 the West Indian Company. The ships of the first sailed via Cape Town to the isles of what became the Dutch East Indian Archipel, India, Japan and Australia; the fleet of the latter did business with North America, South America and the Antilles.
