The Compatriot Win Effect and Behavioural Biases in Lottery Markets

open access: yesOxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper presents evidence to support the compatriot win effect as a behavioural bias in lottery demand. We exploit the quasi‐random assignment of the jackpot prize across provinces in the Christmas draw of the Spanish National Lottery to examine whether lottery sales increase in jackpot‐winning provinces in subsequent draws.

Boron Toxicity Modulates Hypocotyl Growth Through Brassinosteroid and Thermomorphogenic‐Like Mechanisms

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Boron toxicity (BT) is a significant environmental stressor that negatively affects plant development, yet its molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. Interestingly, certain toxic concentrations of boron trigger hypocotyl elongation, suggesting a complex hormonal response. In this study, we focus on the role of brassinosteroids (BRs) in

Fluorescent proteins: A journey from the cell to extreme environments in material science

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Applications of proteins and microorganisms as tools or effectors in material science. Abstract This review presents the progression from the use of fluorescent proteins (FPs) and chromoproteins as bioimaging labels and sensors to the strategic engineering of their properties for robust functionality in synthetic and non‐biological environments ...

Reforming Long‐Term Care Provision and Work in Post‐Pandemic Times: Scope and Drivers of Policy Change in the Spanish Decentralised System

open access: yesSocial Policy &Administration, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The COVID‐19 pandemic unveiled and magnified structural challenges of long‐term care (LTC) provision and work across Europe, bringing the need for reforms on the quality‐of‐care provision and work to the fore in several countries. Focusing on the case of Spain, this paper analyses to what extent the window of opportunity opened by the pandemic
