Dynamic Stability of the 3D Axi-symmetric Navier-Stokes Equations with Swirl

open access: yes, 2006
In this paper, we study the dynamic stability of the 3D axisymmetric Navier-Stokes Equations with swirl. To this purpose, we propose a new one-dimensional (1D) model which approximates the Navier-Stokes equations along the symmetry axis.

Assessment of Anticancer Effects of Aloe vera on 3D Liver Tumor Spheroids in a Microfluidic Platform

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
The comparative effects of Doxorubicin and Aloe vera on HepG2 spheroids grown in a microfluidic device are illustrated in the graphical abstract. In the upper panel, red markers indicate that Doxorubicin treatment primarily induces necrosis in the spheroids.

Global Solutions of the Navier-Stokes Equations for Multidimensional Compressible Flow with Discontinuous Initial Data

open access: yes, 1995
We prove the global existence of weak solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations for compressible, isothermal flow in two and three space dimensions when the initial density is close to a constant in L 2 and L ∞ , and the initial velocity is small in L 2 ...

Precision and Accuracy of Dimensional Assessment of Luminal Contours by Commercially Available Quantitative Angiography Software as a Prerequisite to Angiography Based FFR and Other Derived Parametrics

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Accurate dimensional measurements are critical for quantitative coronary angiography (QCA) and serve as the first step in angiography‐based fractional flow reserve (FFR) calculations. Aims To compare minimum lumen diameter (MLD) measurements across multiple QCA or anigo‐based FFR software programs using phantom models.

The effect of discontinuous injection on particle backflow in pneumatic conveying systems

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract Pneumatic conveying is used in many process industries to transport dry, granular, and powdered solids. The triboelectrification of particles during conveying causes particle agglomeration, spark discharges, and disruptions in particle flow, making particles move upstream against the fluid flow. The effect of frequency of particle injection on

An Efficient Strategy to Deliver Understanding of Both Numerical and Practical Aspects When Using Navier-Stokes Equations to Solve Fluid Mechanics Problems

open access: yesFluids, 2019
An efficient and thorough strategy to introduce undergraduate students to a numerical approach of calculating flow is outlined. First, the basic steps, especially discretization, involved when solving Navier-Stokes equations using a finite-volume method ...
