A Novel Conjugated Octupole–Quadrupole Ion Guide Achieving High Transmission

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, Volume 39, Issue 24, 30 December 2025.
ABSTRACT Rationale Ion transmission efficiency from the atmospheric pressure ion source to the vacuum is critical for the sensitivity of mass spectrometers. In this study, we developed a novel conjugated octupole–quadrupole ion guide—the 8–4 pole ion guide—that achieves high transmission efficiency.

The Dominant Role of Crustal Fields in Structuring Electromagnetic Environment Within the Martian Dayside Magnetosphere

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 24, 28 December 2025.
Abstract Although Mars lacks an intrinsic global dipole magnetic field, the existence of crustal magnetic anomalies in the southern hemisphere causes the Martian magnetosphere to have the hybrid characteristics combining Venus‐like induced and Earth‐like intrinsic types.

Horseshoe‐Shaped Vortices Accompanied With Breaking of Upward Propagating Gravity Waves and Their Relation to Mean‐Flow Acceleration

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 130, Issue 24, 28 December 2025.
Abstract Breaking gravity waves (GWs) are a major source of turbulence and momentum deposition in the middle atmosphere. In spite of the importance of this phenomenon, the small‐scale vortex structures associated with wave breaking remain poorly documented under realistic conditions.

Efficient Hyperreduction for Large‐Scale Problems: Exploiting Reducible Constraint Manifolds in Empirical Quadrature Procedure

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Volume 126, Issue 23, 15 December 2025.
ABSTRACT We develop efficient hyperreduction methods for projection‐based model reduction of nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) with a large number of parameters and/or large parametric extents. Our formulation is based on the empirical quadrature procedure (EQP), which solves an optimization problem that involves “residual‐matching ...
