NBS :

open access: yes, 1980
The compositional homogeneity, microstructure, hardness, electrical conductivity and mechanical properties of 2219 aluminum alloy plates are influenced by the process variables during casting, rolling and thermomechanical treatment. The details of these relationships wre investigated for correctly processed 2219 plate as well as for deviations caused ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

NBS for biodiversity

open access: yes
Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) emerged in the early 2000s as a framework to address climate change and biodiversity challenges through ecosystem-based approaches. NBS are actions that protect, manage, and restore ecosystems to tackle societal issues while enhancing human well-being and biodiversity.

Planar Solid‐State Nanopores Toward Scalable Nanofluidic Integration Based on CMOS Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present a scalable silicon‐based fabrication strategy for planar solid‐state nanopores to enable their integration with complex nanofluidic systems. Prototype devices demonstrate normal voltage‐current characteristics, good noise performance, and appreciable streaming currents. Our CMOS‐compatible fabrication process offers precise geometric control

Hydrogen Effect on Zr-Nb-Mn Alloys for Nuclear Reactor Application

open access: yes, 2019
Zr-Nb-Mn alloys were developed to investigate hydrogen diffusion and its effects among different manganese additions. Thermo-Calc® and TC-Prisma simulations were used to determine the studied chemical compositions and to estimate the volume fraction and ...

Characterization of Aluminized Layers on Inconel‐738 Alloy: Microstructure, Modeling of Aluminizing Kinetics, and Thermal Behavior

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explored how effective nickel aluminide coatings are obtained in providing oxidation resistance applied to the Inconel 738 alloy, modeling with diffusion models. In the present study, kinetics and thermal behavior of the Inconel 738 alloy were studied by the low‐temperature thermoreactive aluminizing process, which was carried out at 625°C ...

N-acetyl-L-cysteine improves mitochondrial and oxidative defects in the acadian variant of fanconi syndrome

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine
The Acadian variant of Fanconi Syndrome (AVFS) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by renal deficiencies. AVFS is caused by a mutation to NDUFAF6 encoding a complex I assembly factor, and leading to metabolic alterations.

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...
