Advanced age and differentiated thyroid carcinoma: a retrospective cohort study investigating surgical outcomes and recurrence risk

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology
BackgroundThe increase in the older population globally presents unique challenges in thyroid cancer management. Age is a crucial prognostic factor in differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC); however, its effect on surgical outcomes in older patients is ...

Assessing the intensification and impact of a historical storm in a warmer climate [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences
Extratropical windstorms pose a major hazard in Northern Europe, with damage primarily arising from the combined effects of high sustained near-surface winds and extreme gusts.

RABBIT: Real-time simulation of the NBI fast-ion distribution

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2018
A novel code is presented, which is capable of computing the NBI fast-ion distribution in real-time. We discuss the approximations needed to arrive at this goal: a simplified beam geometry is used for calculating the beam attenuation.

Efficacy of high-vision transnasal endoscopy using texture and colour enhancement imaging and narrow-band imaging to evaluate gastritis: a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesAnnals of Medicine, 2022
Background A new image-enhanced endoscopy method called texture and colour enhancement imaging (TXI) enhances brightness, surface irregularities, and subtle colour changes in endoscopic images.

Pharmacologic Characterization of Valbenazine (NBI-98854) and Its Metabolites

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, 2017
The vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) is an integral presynaptic protein that regulates the packaging and subsequent release of dopamine and other monoamines from neuronal vesicles into the synapse.

Comparison of narrow band imaging to white light bronchoscopy for evaluation of histopathological biopsy

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Chest Disease and Tuberculosis, 2016
Background: It is difficult to detect precancerous lesions such as dysplasia and carcinoma in situ (CIS) by conventional white light bronchoscopy (WLB).

Acetic Acid Enhanced Narrow Band Imaging for the Diagnosis of Gastric Intestinal Metaplasia. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Gastric intestinal metaplasia (GIM) is a precancerous lesion of the stomach. The detection of GIM using conventional white-light endoscopy (WLE) is difficult. In this study, we determined whether acetic acid-enhanced narrow band imaging (AA-NBI) improves

Loss of SHP1 in Spinal Astrocytes Triggers T‐Lymphocyte Infiltration and Nociceptive Hypersensitivity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Astrocyte‐specific SHP1 deletion disrupts astrocyte–vascular interactions and compromises BBB integrity while enhancing STAT1‐dependent CXCL10 expression. These changes synergistically promote peripheral CD4+ and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration into the SDH. The infiltrating T cells secrete IFN‐γ, which in turn activates microglia.

Impact of thyroid cancer on the cancer risk in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease or dyslipidemia

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
The raised prevalence of obesity has increased the incidence of obesity-related metabolic diseases such as dyslipidemia (DL) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), along with the development and progression of various types of cancer, including ...
