Breaking Bonds at Tin(II): Reductive or Oxidative Addition?

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 137, Issue 32, August 4, 2025.
Typically, the addition of a chemical bond to a metal centre is assumed─without question─to be an oxidative process. Here, through studies of bond addition to tin(II), we reveal a spectrum ranging from ‘oxidative’ (Cl─Cl) to ‘reductive’ (Be─Be) processes, with other bonds (B─B, B─H, H─H) falling between these two extremes.

Self‐Assembly of a Customizable Library of Nickel Trifluoromethylation Catalysts via Selective C─F and C─O Bond Cleavage

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 137, Issue 32, August 4, 2025.
Carbatranes and anionic pincer ligands were self‐assembled via one‐pot C─F or C─O bond cleavage and the formation of C─O, C─N, or C─C bonds, forming ligand architectures inaccessible by common synthetic methods. This approach allowed to build a customizable library of nickel catalysts for light‐induced C─H bond trifluoromethylation.

Implementation of the Hard‐Soft Acid‐Base Principle for the Direct Synthesis of Bimetallic Zirconium‐Nickel and Hafnium‐Nickel Metal‐Organic Frameworks with a Polar Pore Environment

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 31, Issue 44, August 7, 2025.
Successful implementation of the HSAB principle using a bifunctional pyrazole‐carboxylic acid organic linker afforded in one‐pot synthesis heterometallic (Zr/Ni and Hf/Ni) MOFs with a polar pore environment, suitable for gas separation applications. Abstract An important direction in MOFs is the development of materials with well‐defined and ordered ...
