Influence of climate on soil viral communities in Australia on a regional scale

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Agriculture and Environment, Volume 3, Issue 4, October 2024.
Abstract Viruses play a crucial role in regulating microbial communities and ecosystem functioning. However, the biogeographic patterns of viruses and their responses to climate factors remain underexplored. In this study, we performed viral size fraction metagenomes on 108 samples collected along a 2600 km transect across Australia, encompassing ...

Identification of hepatotropic viruses from plasma using deep sequencing: a next generation diagnostic tool.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
We conducted an unbiased metagenomics survey using plasma from patients with chronic hepatitis B, chronic hepatitis C, autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and patients without liver disease (control).

A novel evolutionary strategy revealed in the Phaeoviruses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Phaeoviruses infect the brown algae, which are major contributors to primary production of coastal waters and estuaries. They exploit a Persistent evolutionary strategy akin to a K- selected life strategy via genome integration and are the only known ...

Revised Mimivirus major capsid protein sequence reveals intron-containing gene structure and extra domain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background: Acanthamoebae polyphaga Mimivirus (APM) is the largest known dsDNA virus. The viral particle has a nearly icosahedral structure with an internal capsid shell surrounded with a dense layer of fibrils.

Viral communities in millipede guts: Insights into the diversity and potential role in modulating the microbiome

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 26, Issue 2, February 2024.
Relative abundance of the metagenome‐assembled viral genomes (bottom arch) identified in the hindgut metagenomes and metatranscriptomes of Epibolus pulchripes and Glomeris connexa. The top arch shows the coverage of each viral phylum mapped to the identified metagenome‐assembled viral genomes in transcripts per million.

Isolation and complete genome sequencing of Mimivirus bombay, a Giant Virus in sewage of Mumbai, India

open access: yesGenomics Data, 2016
We report the isolation and complete genome sequencing of a new Mimiviridae family member, infecting Acanthamoeba castellanii, from sewage in Mumbai, India. The isolated virus has a particle size of about 435 nm and a 1,182,200-bp genome.

Comparative genomic analysis of the ‘pseudofungus’ Hyphochytrium catenoides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Eukaryotic microbes have three primary mechanisms for obtaining nutrients and energy: phagotrophy, photosynthesis and osmotrophy. Traits associated with the latter two functions arose independently multiple times in the eukaryotes. The Fungi successfully

A New Family of DNA Viruses Causing Disease in Crustaceans from Diverse Aquatic Biomes

open access: yesmBio, 2020
Panulirus argus virus 1 (PaV1) is the only known virus infecting the Caribbean spiny lobster (Panulirus argus) from the Caribbean Sea. Recently, related viruses, Dikerogammarus haemobaphes virus 1 (DhV1) and Carcinus maenas virus 1 (CmV1), have been ...
