More on Penrose limits and non-local theories

open access: yes, 2002
We obtain the Penrose limit of six dimensional Non-Commutative Open String (NCOS$_6$) theory and show that in the neighborhood of a particular null geodesic it leads to an exactly solvable string theory (unlike their counterparts in four or in other ...

Liquid‐Phase Syngas‐To‐Methanol at Low Temperature: Mixed Alcohol Solvent‐Controlled Pathways for Circular Carbon Manufacturing

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 5, 13 March 2026.
Low‐temperature liquid‐phase methanol synthesis from syngas was demonstrated over CuO/ZnO/Al2O3 catalysts using mixed alcohol solvents. Solvent composition controls ester intermediate and methanol productivity. Methanol is a primary platform chemical for circular manufacturing.

Biodegradable Adhesive Systems for Bio‐Integrated Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 15, 13 March 2026.
Biodegradable adhesives provide temporary yet reliable adhesion while degrading into safe, non‐toxic by‐products under physiological or environmental conditions. This review summarizes recent developments in physical and chemical adhesion mechanisms—including hydrogen bonding, catechol chemistry, amine‐carboxyl coupling, and emerging diazirine and urea

NCOS News - June 2022

open access: yes, 2022
The Cheadle Center at UCSB manages the North Campus Open Space (NCOS), which is a project that has restored 136 acres of upland and wetland habitats that existed before the area was converted into the Ocean Meadows Golf Course in the 1960s. The NCOS restoration project began in 2017 with a fine-scale grading of the site in order to recreate the salt ...

Non‐Equilibrium Construction of Layered Ruddlesden–Popper La2NiO4 Porous Nanosheets for Efficient Urea Electrooxidation

open access: yesCarbon Neutralization, Volume 5, Issue 2, March 2026.
This study demonstrates that microwave‐shock driven construction of 2D Ruddlesden–Popper La2NiO4 with regulated oxygen defects overcomes the persistent bottleneck of sluggish C–N cleavage and intermediate accumulation, unlocking fast charge transport and high‐efficiency urea electrooxidation.

Primary Barbed Suture Versus T‐Tube Drainage After Laparoscopic Common Bile Duct Exploration: A Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims T‐tube drainage has traditionally been used after laparoscopic common bile duct exploration (LCBDE) to reduce the risk of bile leakage; however, it is associated with prolonged hospital stay and tube‐related complications. Primary closure of the common bile duct has emerged as an alternative strategy, but concerns regarding
