Hysteroscopic Sterilization with the Nd:YAG Laser

In 10 rabbits, ablation of the uterine horn endometrium and the fallopian tube was performed with the Nd:YAG laser at a power of 60 W using the touch technique. Eight weeks postsurgery, biopsies of the tissue site were obtained showing that the endometrium and tubal mucosa were completely destroyed.

Subhertz-linewidth Nd:YAG laser

Light from a Nd:YAG laser at 1064 nm is independently stabilized to two Fabry-Perot etalons situated on separate vibration-isolation platforms. A heterodyne beat measurement shows their relative frequency stability to be at the part-in-10(15) level at 5 s and the relative linewidth to be less than 1 Hz.

The Nd:YAG laser has been applied in microneuro-surgery and has been found to be quite effective in removing had and hemorrhagic tumors such as meningiomas, tumors of the deep skull base, or tumors deep in the ventricle. Another indication for the use of the Nd:YAG laser is to open the thick sellar floor in transsphenoidal operations.

A Mode-Locked Nd:YAG Laser

A mode-locked Nd:YAG laser is described which produces pulses 30 psec in duration at a 2.6 nsec repetition rate. The locking range extends over ≈35 GHz, although the free-running oscillating linewidth is only about 10 GHz. Also discussed is the behavior of the phase of the pulsetrain with changing cavity length.

AbstractThe use of the neodymium:YAG (Nd:YAG) laser in urology is still in its infancy. To date, the most widely published application of this laser is in the treatment of bladder carcinoma. We have utilized the Nd:YAG laser in 23 treatments for superficial bladder tumors.

Holographic laser resonators in Nd:YAG

We report the operation of Nd:YAG ring laser resonators formed by diffractive coupling from a gain volume hologram written in a Nd:YAG amplifier. Stable diffraction-limited output in a TEM(00) mode is demonstrated in a Nd:YAG system with thermal lensing and without the requirement of spatial mode control.

Fluorescence quenching in Nd:YAG

Laser neutralization of antipersonnel (AP) mines offers the enormous advantage to work from a safe distance. In this article the interaction of Nd:YAG laser radiation and four different types of blast AP mines is investigated. For this purpose, a very compact laser system for mine neutralization is developed.
