Cooking Impacts PM1 in Suburban New York, With Implications for Respiratory Deposition

Abstract Sub–micron particulate matter (PM1) in the New York (NY) metropolitan area impacts air quality and human health. We characterized refractory black carbon (BC) and non–refractory (NR) PM1 in Mineola, NY during winter 2024 and NR‐PM1 during summer 2023.

Effects of Mono‐ and Dicapsaicinoid Functionalization on the Physicochemical Properties and Antimicrobial Photodynamic Activity of Protoporphyrin IX

Capsaicin functionalization of Protoporphyrin IX influences aggregation behavior, lipophilicity, and photodynamic activity. A monosubstituted derivative exhibits enhanced antimicrobial photoinactivation of Staphylococcus aureus, whereas increased functionalization does not improve efficacy.
