Pre-impact Albedo Map and Photometric Properties of the (65803) Didymos Asteroid Binary System from DART and Ground-based Data

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
This study provides a pre-impact map of the albedo of the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) target Dimorphos corrected for all the effects of viewing geometry, as well as an estimate of photometric roughness for the hemisphere imaged by DART. Other

Implications for the Formation of (155140) 2005 UD from a New Convex Shape Model

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal, 2023
(155140) 2005 UD has a similar orbit to (3200) Phaethon, an active asteroid in a highly eccentric orbit thought to be the source of the Geminid meteor shower.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Colors and Dynamics of a Near-Sun Orbital Asteroid Family: 2021 PH27 and 2025 GN1

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We observed the dynamically similar near-Sun asteroids 2021 PH27 and 2025 GN1 for their optical colors. These objects have the lowest known semimajor axes of any asteroids.

Near-Earth Objects (NEO) and other current space threats

open access: yesSecurity and Defence Quarterly, 2020
Objectives The subject of the study are space threats – Near-Earth Objects (NEO) and Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHA). Methods The research methods employed in this article included the classic theoretical methods used in security sciences and a

Observations of Near Earth Objects with Spitzer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We are carrying out an Exploration Science Warm Spitzer program entitled NEOSurvey in which we are observing 550 Near Earth Objects in 710 hours of Spitzer time. For each object we use a thermal model to derive diameter and albedo. For each object we also derive a (partial) lightcurve; total elapsed observing times range from 15 minutes to 3.2 hours ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Keck and Gemini Characterization of Hayabusa2# Rendezvous Target 1998 KY26

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Near-Earth object (NEO) 1998 KY _26 is a target of the Hayabusa2# spacecraft, which it will rendezvous with in 2031 July. The asteroid has been noted to rotate rapidly and has a large out-of-plane nongravitational acceleration.

Near-Earth Objects in the Taurid complex [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2008
The Taurid complex consists of many substreams and has both comet 2P/Encke and several Near-Earth Objects (NEOs) moving within it. We conduct a new search for associated NEOs, investigate the orbital evolution of any identified NEO and search for meteor showers associated with these NEOs.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...
