The consequences of a nearby supernova on the early Solar System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
If the Sun was born in a relatively compact open cluster, it is quite likely that a massive (10MSun) star was nearby when it exploded in a supernova. The repercussions of a supernova can be rather profound, and the current Solar System may still bear the

REVEALING THE NATURE OF EXTREME CORONAL-LINE EMITTER SDSS J095209.56+214313.3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Extreme coronal-line emitter (ECLE) SDSS J095209.56+214313.3, known by its strong, fading, high-ionization lines, has been a long-standing candidate for a tidal disruption event; however, a supernova (SN) origin has not yet been ruled out.

Oxychlorine Species on Mars: A Review

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 63, Issue 4, December 2025.
Abstract Oxychlorine species (mainly perchlorate and chlorate) have been identified at multiple locations on the surface of Mars by both orbiter and in situ rovers. They have also been found in martian meteorites. Cl‐isotopes in meteoritic minerals suggest that an oxychlorine cycle has been operating on the martian surface for the last ∼4 billion years.

Potential for Supernova Neutrino Detection in MiniBooNE

open access: yes, 2002
The MiniBooNE detector at Fermilab is designed to search for $\nu_\mu \to \nu_e$ oscillation appearance at $E_\nu \sim 1 {\rm GeV}$ and to make a decisive test of the LSND signal.

Clinical Pharmacology Approaches to Predict Efficacy of Monoclonal Antibodies Against Emerging SARS‐CoV‐2 Variants

open access: yesClinical and Translational Science, Volume 18, Issue 12, December 2025.
ABSTRACT The onset of the global COVID‐19 pandemic created an urgent need for therapeutic monoclonal antibody (mAb) development, while the rapid mutation of the SARS‐CoV‐2 virus and emergence of new variants presented a moving target for validation of efficacy. Since it is virtually impossible to conduct randomized controlled trials in the context of a

Earth Matter Effects in Detection of Supernova Neutrinos [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We calculated the matter effect, including both the Earth and supernova, on the detection of neutrinos from type II supernovae at the proposed Daya Bay reactor neutrino experiment.

New Arabic Records From Cairo on Supernovae 1181 and 1006

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, Volume 346, Issue 9, November 2025.
ABSTRACT The remnant of the historical supernova SN 1181 is under discussion: While the previously suggested G130.7+3.1 (3C58) appears too old (3000–5000 year), the unusual star IRAS00500+6713 with a surrounding nebula (Pa‐30) has an expansion age not inconsistent with a SN Iax explosion in ad 1181 under the assumption that neither acceleration nor ...

Supernova Neutrino Oscillations

open access: yes, 2005
Observing a high-statistics neutrino signal from a galactic supernova (SN) would allow one to test the standard delayed explosion scenario and may allow one to distinguish between the normal and inverted neutrino mass ordering due to the effects of ...

Turbulence Heating ObserveR – satellite mission proposal

open access: yesJournal of Plasma Physics, 2016
The Universe is permeated by hot, turbulent, magnetized plasmas. Turbulent plasma is a major constituent of active galactic nuclei, supernova remnants, the intergalactic and interstellar medium, the solar corona, the solar wind and the Earth’s ...

Effect of Background Magnetic Field on Ion Weibel Instability With High‐Intensity Short‐Pulse Lasers

open access: yesContributions to Plasma Physics, Volume 65, Issue 10, November 2025.
ABSTRACT The effect of finite background magnetic field on magnetic field amplification by Weibel instability using high‐intensity short‐pulse lasers is investigated. We consider Weibel instability for counter‐streaming sub‐relativistic plasma flows generated by shooting pure carbon targets with short‐pulse lasers.
