Seismic Performance Assessment of Ordinary Moment Resisting Frame Equipped with Viscous Dampers under Pulse-Like Earthquakes

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2022
In conventional structures, the earthquake-resistant design is based on flexibility after yielding of structural members to provide a loss of earthquake input energy, while, using dampers, the input energy loss can be concentrated in predetermined points

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Utilizing distributed acoustic sensing and ocean bottom fiber optic cables for submarine structural characterization

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
The sparsity of permanent seismic instrumentation in marine environments often limits the availability of subsea information on geohazards, including active fault systems, in both time and space. One sensing resource that provides observational access to

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

A simplified method for determining the equivalent peak ground acceleration of near-fault pulse-like ground motions

open access: yesGeomatics, Natural Hazards & Risk
Near-fault ground motions (NFGMs) differ significantly from far-field ground motions (FFGMs), as NFGMs exhibit pronounced pulse effects and directionality.

Near-fault broadband ground-motion simulation of 2021 Yangbi M6.4 earthquake: an improved FK method

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2023
Extending the physics-based ground-motion simulation from the existing 1~2 Hz resolution to the higher frequency of 5~10 Hz, which is sensitive to the engineering structure, is a critical development direction of near-fault ground-motion simulation in ...

An epithelial GPR35 isoform supports tumor‐associated transcriptional and metabolic phenotypes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
GPR35 generates two functionally distinct isoforms with previously unresolved roles. GPR35‐short mediates immune‐cell chemotaxis, while GPR35‐long is enriched in colorectal cancer epithelium, where it supports increased metabolism, proliferation, and tumor‐associated transcriptional programs.

Peripheral lysosomes recruit PLEKHG3 to focal adhesions and restrain protrusion dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proximity‐dependent labeling at the LAMTOR complex revealed the Rho GEF PLEKHG3 as a lysosome‐proximal protein directing the study toward the influence of lysosome positioning on actin dynamics and cell motility. We show that PLEKHG3 colocalizes with lysosomes at focal adhesion sites and observe that forced peripheral dispersion of lysosomes hinders ...

An Empirical Model to Account for Spectral Amplification of Pulse-Like Ground Motion Records

open access: yesGeosciences, 2020
Near-source effects can amplify seismic ground motion, causing large demand to structures and thus their identification and characterization is fundamental for engineering applications.

Translophagy—A potential link between autophagy impairment and translational errors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neurodegenerative diseases are characterised by the accumulation of abnormal proteins and protein aggregates, but their origin often remains unknown. We propose that selective autophagy removes damaged protein‐making machinery, preventing errors during protein synthesis.
