A New Near-Lossless Image Compression Algorithm
2007 2nd IEEE Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications, 2007This paper proposes a new near-lossless image compression algorithm, namely empirical data decomposition (EDD), which can carry on adaptive analysis to the observation data. The algorithm suits to analyze non-stationary data and can effectively remove the relevance between of observation data.

Lossless and Near-Lossless Compression for Mammographic Digital Images
2006 International Conference on Image Processing, 2006In this paper, a method for lossless and near lossless compression of large digital mammograms is proposed. This method is based on a predictive coder that uses integer-to-integer operations, and generates a two-layer embedded bit stream (i.e. near-lossless and refinement layer). The maximum tolerated pixel distortion is guaranteed in the near lossless

Near lossless ROI compression for medical images
Optics and Precision Engineering, 2013A near lossless Region of Interest(ROI)compression algorithm based on the shearlet transform was proposed for medical images to improve the Mean Structural SIMilarity(MSSIM) between the original image and the reconstructed image.Firstly, the ROI was designated in a medical image and the rests were regard as the Background(BG).Then, the ROI and BG were ...

Lossless and near-lossless compression of EEG signals
Conference Record of the Thirty-First Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers (Cat. No.97CB36136), 2002In this paper we study compression techniques for electroencephalograph (EEG) signals. A variety of lossless compression techniques, ranging from simple dictionary based approaches to more sophisticated context modeling techniques based on work in lossless image coding are investigated and compared.

IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2003
The Canadian Space Agency is investigating an onboard compressor for a hyperspectral satellite using its two innovative data compression techniques. It is essential to verify the quality of the compressed data and users' acceptability in terms of their remote sensing applications. Hyperspectral data cubes acquired by hyperspectral sensors such as casi,

Near-lossless compression by relaxation-labeled 3D prediction
2000In this work, near-lossless compression, i.e., yielding strictly bounded reconstruction error, is proposed for high-quality data compression. An interframe causal DPCM scheme is presented for interframe compression of remotely sensed optical data, both multispectral and hyperspectral, as well as of volumetric medical data.

Near-lossless transform and wavelet compression or transient DPCM
Proceedings of 3rd IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, 2002We consider the problem of reducing the peak distortion of transform/wavelet compression schemes. A new coding scheme called transient DPCM (T-DPCM) is developed. It is shown that T-DPCM has the same asymptotic (in rate) mean squared-error (MSE) performance as the transform or wavelet compression system it is derived from (for an appropriate model ...

Near-lossless bandwidth compression for radiometric data
Optical Engineering, 1991We present a bandwidth compression scheme suitable for transmission of radiometric data collected bytoday's sensitive and high-resolution sensors. Specific design constraints associated with this application are requirements for (1) near-lossless coding, (2) handling of a high dynamic range, and (3) placement of an upper bound on maximum coding error ...

Lossless and near-lossless compression of ECG signals
2001 Conference Proceedings of the 23rd Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2005We present a linear transformation algorithm (LTA), which is based on a new transformation, linear order transformation (LOT). Experimental results show that the LTA yields comparable results to the Burrows-Wheeler algorithm (BWA) and outperforms the Gzip, and shorten waveform coder for near-lossless ECG compression; for lossless ECG compression it ...
