Extracorporeal Catalytic Hemoperfusion Therapy for Refractory Septic Shock Using Ceria Nanoparticle‐Embedded Porous Microbeads

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces an extracorporeal hemoperfusion system incorporating porous microbeads embedded with autocatalytic ceria nanoparticles (CeNPs) for targeted reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging in septic shock. The blood‐compatible hemoperfusion cartridge demonstrated significant improvements in survival, hemodynamic stability, and organ ...

Lichens and lichenicolous fungi of the “Golczewskie Uroczysko” nature reserve (NW Poland)

open access: yesActa Biologica, 2017
Lichens of the “Golczewskie Uroczysko” nature reserve were studied in 2007–2008 and 2015–2016. Within the examined area, 68 species of lichens and 5 lichenicolous fungi were observed. Eleven species are included in the red list of threatened lichens in

Impact of parity in rock-paper-scissors type models [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
We investigate the impact of parity on the abundance of weak species in the context of the simplest generalization of the rock-paper-scissors model to an arbitrary number of species -- we consider models with a total number of species ($N_S$) between 3 and 12, having one or more (weak) species characterized by a reduced predation probability (by a ...

Giant vortex and Skyrmion in a rotating two-species Bose-Einstein condensate [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. A 77, 033621(2008), 2007
Numerical simulations are performed for a rotating two-species Bose condensate confined by a harmonic potential. The particle numbers of each species are unequal. When the rotational speed exceeds a critical value, the majority species reside in the center of the potential while the minority species is pushed out to the outskirts, forming a giant ...

Inventario de avifauna del norte de Entre Ríos, Argentina: registros notables y perspectivas de conservación [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Biodiversity inventories remain fundamental tools for biodiversity conservation. Neotropical biota has poor faunal inventories. In Argentina, the avifauna of the province of Entre Ríos is still not well known.

Multifunctional Hydroxyapatite Coated with Gallium Liquid Metal‐Based Silver Nanoparticles for Infection Prevention and Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multifunctional hydroxyapatite (HAp) coating integrated with silver‐gallium liquid metal nanoparticles (HAp‐Ag‐GaNPs) exhibits dual antibacterial and osteogenic properties. It effectively inhibits Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria, including resistant strains, while enhancing bone regeneration.

Transparent, Non-local, Species-selective Transport in an Optical Superlattice Containing Two Interacting Atom Species [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. A 83, 033623 (2011), 2011
In an optical superlattice of triple wells, containing two mutually interacting atom species in adjacent wells, we show that one species can be transported through the positions of the other species, yet avoiding significant overlap and direct interaction.

Tree hollows are of conservation importance for a Near‐Threatened python species [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Zoology, 2011
AbstractUnderstanding microhabitat requirements for species vulnerable to anthropogenic threats can provide important information to conservation managers. This may be particularly true for ectotherms, where behaviour and physiology (e.g. digestion, responsiveness and activity patterns) are strongly influenced by thermal conditions of microhabitat ...

Biomimetic Nanomedicines Deliver Naringin for Enhanced Acute Liver Failure Therapy via Balanced Regulation of Hepatocyte Oxidative Stress and Kupffer Cell Inflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A biomimetic nanomedicine (RBLN) constructed by loading natural antioxidants to clinically used layered double hydroxide nanoparticles is surface coated with fresh or senescent red blood cell membrane for balanced drug delivery to hepatocytes and KCs, thereby simultaneously alleviating liver oxidant stress and inflammation for effective drug‐induced ...
