Near-field degree of polarization

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
We investigate an extension of the concept of degree of polarization for arbitrary electromagnetic fields, i.e., fields whose wave structure is not necessarily planar. We show how this formulation relates the degree of polarization to the correlations between the three orthogonal components of the electric field.

Continuation of acoustic near-fields

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2003
This paper deals with the analytic continuation of a coherent pressure field specified on a finite sheet located close to and conformal to the surface of a vibrator. This analytic continuation is an extension or extrapolation of the given (measured) field into a region outside and tangential to the original finite sheet, and is based on the Green’s ...

The Near Field and the Far Field

2012
The essential information for practical metrology is presented in this chapter, including a brief summary of the near-field properties as well as the basic equations and formulas related to fields generated by simple radiation sources.

Near field superdirectivity (NFSD)

Proceedings of the 1998 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing, ICASSP '98 (Cat. No.98CH36181), 2002
In some array applications, the source of interest is close to the array, so that we have to use a near-field model. Almost always the near-field is considered as an additional difficulty. We contradict this point of view and show that if the desired source is in the near-field and the other sources are in the far-field, then even a small array can be ...

Near Field Measurement Models

1998
In Chap. 12 we derived the Thompson-Gray measurement model using both a direct approach and an approach based on reciprocity relations. In either case, we assumed the incident and scattered waves could be treated as quasi-plane waves modified by appropriate diffraction correction terms and the scattering amplitude was assumed to be slowly varying so ...
