The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.

Demand Side Management in Nearly Zero Energy Buildings Using Heuristic Optimizations
Today’s buildings are responsible for about 40% of total energy consumption and 30–40% of carbon emissions, which are key concerns for the sustainable development of any society. The excessive usage of grid energy raises sustainability issues in the face

What kind of heat loss requirements NZEB and deep renovation sets for building envelope? [PDF]
In most of countries the energy performance of buildings is defined as (primary) energy use of whole buildingâ s (heating, cooling, ventilation, DHW, lighting, HVAC auxiliary, appliances), not as specific requirements for building envelope.

The Control of Pupil Conduct by the School [PDF]
The rapid exhaustion of the finite reserves of fossil-fuels adds to the woes on all walks of the society, and especially on the policy-makers, scientists and engineers to devise means to mitigate the consequences.

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Nearly-zero Energy Buildings: Cost-optimal Analysis of Building Envelope Characteristics
Abstract Energy consumption in the building sector continues to increase in the entire world and therefore, the determination of cost-optimal solutions towards nearly zero-energy buildings is a serious challenge. The present study is focused on the optimal thermal features of the building envelope, including thermal insulation on wall, roof and ...

Cost optimality and nZEB target in the renovation of Portuguese building stock - Rainha Dona Leonor neighborhood case study [PDF]
Improving energy efficiency in existing buildings is a great challenge. These buildings have their own limitations related with their design, location and function.

This paper presents a novel approach to reducing oxide layers on metal powders using low‐temperature hydrogen dielectric barrier discharge plasmas at atmospheric pressure. Unlike conventional hydrogen‐plasma reductions, the powders do not contact the plasma directly.

Optimization of the sustainability during the refurbishment design phase of a residential building using SBToolpt-H [PDF]
As it has been observed along the years, the unsustainability of the built environment is due to the high resources consumption and low indoor air quality of the existing building stock.

Surface Tension Measurement of Ti‐6Al‐4V by Falling Droplet Method in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere
In this article, the temperature‐dependent surface tension of free falling, oscillating Ti‐6Al‐4V droplets is investigated in both argon and monosilane doped, oxygen‐free atmosphere. Droplet temperature and oscillation are captured with one single high‐speed camera, and the surface tension is calculated with Rayleigh's formula.
