Volume measurement of microparticles using SEM photogrammetry and 3‐D reconstruction

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract In this paper, we introduce a method for volume measurement of microparticles that includes scanning electron microscope photogrammetry with 3‐D model construction. Our results show that our method limits the volume uncertainty to ±10%, which is a significant improvement compared to previous methods (which likely overestimated volume by 100 ...

The stability of a spherical Nebula

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society of London
It is usual to take as the theoretical basis of the nebular hypothesis the established fact that the equilibrium of a rotating mass of liquid becomes unstable as soon as the rotation exceeds a certain critical value. The present paper attempts to examine

Left nationalism in the French Basque Country: From civic opposition to critical participation

open access: yesNations and Nationalism, EarlyView.
Abstract Research on territories which have long been subjected to nationalist violence has tended to focus on the most radical manifestations of these struggles and their electoral and institutional consequences. In certain configurations, the involvement of nationalist entrepreneurs in socio‐economic initiatives, environmental causes or women's ...

Analysis of the structural complexity of Crab Nebula observed at radio frequency using a multifractal approach

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Complexity
The Crab Nebula is an astrophysical system that exhibits complex morphological patterns at different observing frequencies. We carry out a systematic investigation of the structural complexity of the nebula using publicly available imaging data at radio ...

How to extend pilot innovation in public services: A case of children's social care innovation

open access: yesPublic Administration, EarlyView.
Abstract There is considerable investment by government policymakers in supporting pilot innovation in public services, following which pilots prove difficult to sustain. Our 4‐year longitudinal study of three pilot innovations in England, which seek to support the transition of care leavers into adulthood, provides insight into how such pilots can be ...

Shedding new light on the Crab with polarized X-rays

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Strong magnetic fields, synchrotron emission, and Compton scattering are omnipresent in compact celestial X-ray sources. Emissions in the X-ray energy band are consequently expected to be linearly polarized. X-ray polarimetry provides a unique diagnostic

Reconstruction at the meso level: Rebuilding everyday life in post‐conflict Malakand, Pakistan

open access: yesPeace &Change, EarlyView.
Abstract Meso‐level institutions are integral to everyday life but are often overlooked in post‐civil war rebuilding efforts. This study, based on a qualitative dataset of 27 interviews and 11 focus groups conducted in Malakand Division, Pakistan, reveals that many of the institutions that are vital to local stakeholders have been neglected in the ...
