Establishing quality indicators for neck dissection: correlating the number of lymph nodes with oncologic outcomes, NRG Oncology RTOG 9501 and 0234

open access: yesCancer, 2016
Prospective quality metrics for neck dissection have not been established for patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between lymph node counts from neck dissection, local‐regional

Lipid Nanoparticle Co‐Delivery of mRNA and a Small Molecule Drug for Oral Cancer Chemoimmunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Co‐encapsulation of p53 mRNA and the small molecule ciclopirox within a lipid nanoparticle yields an all‐in‐one chemoimmunotherapy for oral squamous cell carcinoma. The platform engages caspase‐driven apoptosis in cancer cells while repolarizing tumor‐associated macrophages, achieving tumor reduction in both p53‐susceptible and p53‐resistant models and

Clinical significance of prophylactic central compartment neck dissection in the treatment of clinically node-negative papillary thyroid cancer patients

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgical Oncology, 2016
BackgroundLymph nodal involvement is very common in differentiated thyroid cancer, and in addition, cervical lymph node micrometastases are observed in up to 80 % of papillary thyroid cancers.

Cost-Effectiveness Analysis of Elective Neck Dissection in Patients With Clinically Node-Negative Oral Cavity Cancer

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Oncology, 2016
Purpose Recently, a large randomized trial found a survival advantage among patients who received elective neck dissection in conjunction with primary surgery for clinically node-negative oral cavity cancer compared with those receiving primary surgery ...

Maskless Fabrication of PLA‐Based Neural Arrays for CNS Recording and Stimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Biodegradable neural interfaces enable bidirectional communication with the CNS. Through electrochemical characterization, ageing tests with impedance monitoring, and in vivo validation, we assess the performance of PLA‐based epicortical and spinal implants.

Neck dissection for treatment of supraglottic carcinoma associated with deep-seated intermuscular lipoma in the neck: A case report

open access: yesRadiology Case Reports
Lipomas are superficial tumors that occur primarily in the subcutaneous region and very rarely occur deeply within or between the muscle layers. No reports to date have described cervical lipomas in patients with head and neck cancer who underwent neck ...

Cervicopectoral flap in head and neck cancer surgery

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgical Oncology, 2003
Background Reconstruction of the head and neck after adequate resection of primary tumor and neck dissection is a challenge. It should be performed at one sitting in advanced tumors. Defects caused by the resection should be closed with flaps which match

GPR124 Alleviates Blood–Brain Barrier Disruption by Enhancing Microvascular Endothelial Function after Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our study reveals the protective role of GPR124 in maintaining BBB integrity and promoting neurological recovery following TBI. It makes a significant contribution by uncovering a novel molecular interaction between GPR124 and FGFBP1 and linking this to activation of the Wnt/β‐catenin signaling pathway in vascular repair mechanisms.
