Retroviral Infections Affect Survival and Clutch Size of Female Wild Turkeys
Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.We investigated the effects of two oncogenic retroviruses, lymphoproliferative disease virus (LPDV) and reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV), on survival and reproduction of wild turkeys in Maine. REV infection reduced female annual survival by nearly half, while LPDV‐infected hens laid fewer eggs, though other reproductive metrics were unaffected.
