Healing With the Needles [PDF]

open access: yesThe Annals of Family Medicine, 2008
A child's spontaneous desire to help her mother during an office visit prompts me to reflect upon the multidimensional nature of healing and how, as family physicians, we often encounter these unique moments in our day-to-day practice.

Using hypodermic needle as suture needle in emergency

open access: yesJournal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery, 2020
Sometimes, suture thread detaches from needle while suturing. This leads to wastage of left over thread and we have to repeat whole process of suturing as the extra suture needles are not easily available. The present article highlights the use of hypodermic needle as suture needle in such emergencies.

Orientational correlations and the effect of spatial gradients in the equilibrium steady state of hard rods in 2D : A study using deposition-evaporation kinetics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Deposition and evaporation of infinitely thin hard rods (needles) is studied in two dimensions using Monte Carlo simulations. The ratio of deposition to evaporation rates controls the equilibrium density of rods, and increasing it leads to an entropy ...

Synergistic Effects of Cerium and Magnesium on Optimizing Electrical Conductivity and Mechanical Properties of AlSi3 Cast Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the impact of Ce and/or Mg on the electrical conductivity (EC) and mechanical properties of AlSi3 cast alloy. It highlights the synergistic effects of Ce and Mg on eutectic Si modification and Mg solute reduction in the Al matrix, resulting in the optimization of EC, strength, and ductility of the alloy.

Anisotropic charge displacement supporting isolated photorefractive optical needles

open access: yes, 2000
The strong asymmetry in charge distribution supporting a single non-interacting spatial needle soliton in a paraelectric photorefractive is directly observed by means of electroholographic readout.

Scalable Fabrication of Height‐Variable Microstructures with a Revised Wetting Model

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Height‐variable microstructures are fabricated using a scalable CO2 laser machining approach, enabling precise control of wettability through structural gradients. Classical wetting models fail to capture height‐induced effects, necessitating a revised theoretical framework.

n-Alkanes in the needle waxes of Pinus heldreichii var. pančići [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society, 2010
This is the first report of n-alkanes in needle epicuticular waxes of the variety Bosnian pine, Pinus heldreichii var. pančići. n-Hexane extracts of needle samples, originating from seven isolated localities in Serbia, were analysed by gas chromatography

Estimated quantification of residual volume in vaccines supplies and its impact on the Brazilian health system [PDF]

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências
Between 2017 and 2021, the Brazilian Unified Health System (BUHS) administered a total of 527,903,302 doses of immunizations. Each immunization results in the presence of a residual volume (RV) due to syringe dead space (DS).

The Nonlinear Visco‐Hyperelastic Damage Mechanics of Individual Electrospun Polycaprolactone Fibers: Experiments and Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the complex mechanics of individual electrospun polycaprolactone fibers under small and large strains. Combining experiments with a visco‐hyperelastic damage model, this work reveals and quantifies these fibers’ nonlinear behavior, including strain‐stiffening, viscoelasticity, and damage.
