Isotropic-nematic behaviour of hard rigid rods: a percolation theoretic approach [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Needles at different orientations are placed in an i.i.d. manner at points of a Poisson point process on $\mathbb R^2$ of density $\lambda$. Needles at the same direction have the same length, while needles at different directions maybe of different lengths.

Mesenchymal Stem Cells‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles Mimetics as Osteoinductive Mediators for Bone Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stem cell‐derived nanoghosts (MSC‐NGs) mimic naturally secreted extracellular vesicles (MSC‐EVs) in structure and physicochemical properties but can be synthesized at more translatable yields. As osteogenic agents, MSC‐NGs demonstrate superior outcomes compared to MSC‐EVs.

A fungal mycelium templates the growth of aragonite needles [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Fungi live within diverse environments and survive well under extreme conditions that are usually beyond the tolerance of most other organisms. In different environments fungi are known to induce precipitation of a wide range of minerals. Various species of fungi have been shown to facilitate calcium carbonate mineralization. Here, inspired by examples

Biochemical and functional characteristics of the photosynthetic apparatus in vegetative buds and mature needles of Norway spruce (Picea abies L. Karst.) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The biochemical characteristics and functioning of the photosynthetic apparatus in two developmental stages of spruce needles (vegetative buds and mature needles) were compared.

Toward Architected Microstructures Using Advanced Laser Beam Shaping in Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Ti‐6Al‐4V

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This research applies advanced laser beam shaping (LCoS‐SLM) to fabricate the Ti‐6Al‐4V alloy via laser powder bed fusion. A tailored beam is used to prevent martensite formation and create a dual α+β microstructure by controlling cooling rates.
