Motion Informed Needle Segmentation in Ultrasound Images [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Segmenting a moving needle in ultrasound images is challenging due to the presence of artifacts, noise, and needle occlusion. This task becomes even more demanding in scenarios where data availability is limited. In this paper, we present a novel approach for needle segmentation for 2D ultrasound that combines classical Kalman Filter (KF) techniques ...

Photosynthetic apparatus of Siberian pine needles during the period of emerging from the state of winter dormancy in the conditions of the high-altitude zone of the Western Sayan [PDF]

open access: yesСибирский лесной журнал
Due to climate change, many species of coniferous trees, which are the main forest formers of the forests of Western and Eastern Siberia, have shifts in both latitudinal and altitudinal boundaries of the range.

Collaborative Robotic Biopsy with Trajectory Guidance and Needle Tip Force Feedback [PDF]

open access: yes2023 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), London, United Kingdom, 2023, pp. 6893-6900, 2023
The diagnostic value of biopsies is highly dependent on the placement of needles. Robotic trajectory guidance has been shown to improve needle positioning, but feedback for real-time navigation is limited. Haptic display of needle tip forces can provide rich feedback for needle navigation by enabling localization of tissue structures along the ...

Critical Casimir torques and forces acting on needles in two spatial dimensions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We investigate the universal orientation-dependent interactions between non-spherical colloidal particles immersed in a critical solvent by studying the instructive paradigm of a needle embedded in bounded two-dimensional Ising models at bulk criticality.

Percolation and jamming in random sequential adsorption of linear segments on square lattice

open access: yes, 2001
We present the results of study of random sequential adsorption of linear segments (needles) on sites of a square lattice. We show that the percolation threshold is a nonmonotonic function of the length of the adsorbed needle, showing a minimum for a ...

Geometrical selection in growing needles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We investigate the growth of needles from a flat substrate. We focus on the situation when needles suddenly begin to grow from the seeds randomly distributed on the line. The width of needles is ignored and we additionally assume that (i) the growth rate is the same for all needles; (ii) the direction of the growth of each needle is randomly chosen ...

Nerve Block Target Localization and Needle Guidance for Autonomous Robotic Ultrasound Guided Regional Anesthesia [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Visual servoing for the development of autonomous robotic systems capable of administering UltraSound (US) guided regional anesthesia requires real-time segmentation of nerves, needle tip localization and needle trajectory extrapolation. First, we recruited 227 patients to build a large dataset of 41,000 anesthesiologist annotated images from US videos

A coiled‐coil domain triggers oligomerization of MmpL10, the mycobacterial transporter of trehalose polyphleate precursor

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Most MmpLs transport lipids and glycolipids of the complex mycomembrane of mycobacteria. This study shows that MmpL10 from Mycobacterium smegmatis, the transporter of the trehalose polyphosphate precursor, harbors a coiled‐coil‐like extension. Biochemical and electron microscopy studies demonstrate that the coiled‐coil enables MmpL10 to trimerize.

COMPARISON OF POSITIVE ASPIRATION DURING INFERIOR ALVEOLAR NERVE BLOCK USING CONVENTIONAL METALLIC DENTAL SYRINGE VS. DISPOSABLE PLASTIC SYRINGE

open access: yesPakistan Armed Forces Medical Journal, 2020
Objective: To compare the frequency of positive aspiration during inferior alveolar nerve blocks using conventional metallic dental syringe and disposable 3cc plastic syringe and to observe the efficacy of aspiration of both syringe systems.
