The accumulation of myeloid‐derived suppressor cells participates in abdominal infection‐induced tumor progression through the PD‐L1/PD‐1 axis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores how sepsis affects GC progression by creating an immunosuppressive environment. Our findings reveal that sepsis promotes immune dysregulation, enhancing tumor growth and metastasis. Targeting the PD‐1/PD‐L1 pathway with monoclonal antibodies shows potential for restoring immune function and improving outcomes in cancer patients ...

Markerless Suture Needle 6D Pose Tracking with Robust Uncertainty Estimation for Autonomous Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Suture needle localization is necessary for autonomous suturing. Previous approaches in autonomous suturing often relied on fiducial markers rather than markerless detection schemes for localizing a suture needle due to the inconsistency of markerless detections.

Robust acute myeloid leukemia engraftment in humanized scaffolds using injectable biomaterials and intravenous xenotransplantation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Patient‐derived xenografts (PDXs) can be improved by implantation of a humanized niche. We tested different biomaterials and approaches, and demonstrate that the combination of an injectable biomaterial for scaffold creation plus an intravenous route for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) xenotransplantation provide the most convenient and robust approach to

Altitudinal gradients of natural abundance of stable isotopes of nitrogen and carbon in the needles and soil of a pine forest in Nepal

open access: yesJournal of Forest Science, 2003
This paper deals with natural abundance of 15N and 13C in the soil and needles of the pine forest (Pinus roxburghii, Sargent) along an altitudinal gradient. The study area lies in the elevation range of 1,200 m to 2,200 m in Kathmanduvalley of Nepal. The

Needle Tip Force Estimation using an OCT Fiber and a Fused convGRU-CNN Architecture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Needle insertion is common during minimally invasive interventions such as biopsy or brachytherapy. During soft tissue needle insertion, forces acting at the needle tip cause tissue deformation and needle deflection. Accurate needle tip force measurement provides information on needle-tissue interaction and helps detecting and compensating potential ...

Needle bevel geometry influences the flexural deflection magnitude in ultrasound-enhanced fine-needle biopsy [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
It has been recently demonstrated that use of ultrasound increases the tissue yield in ultrasound-enhanced fine-needle aspiration biopsy (USeFNAB) as compared to conventional fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB). To date, the association between bevel geometry and needle tip action has not been widely explored.

TRPM4 contributes to cell death in prostate cancer tumor spheroids, and to extravasation and metastasis in a zebrafish xenograft model system

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Transient receptor potential melastatin‐4 (TRPM4) is overexpressed in prostate cancer (PCa). Knockout of TRPM4 resulted in reduced PCa tumor spheroid size and decreased PCa tumor spheroid outgrowth. In addition, lack of TRPM4 increased cell death in PCa tumor spheroids.

Bevel-Tip Needle Deflection Modeling, Simulation, and Validation in Multi-Layer Tissues [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Percutaneous needle insertions are commonly performed for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes as an effective alternative to more invasive surgical procedures. However, the outcome of needle-based approaches relies heavily on the accuracy of needle placement, which remains a challenge even with robot assistance and medical imaging guidance due to ...
