Goodbye flat lymphoma biology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Three‐dimensional (3D) biological systems have become key tools in lymphoma research, offering reliable in vitro and ex vivo platforms to explore pathogenesis and support precision medicine. This review highlights current 3D non‐Hodgkin lymphoma models, detailing their features, advantages, and limitations, and provides a broad perspective on future ...

High-dose-rate brachytherapy (interventional radiotherapy) in lip carcinoma with rigid needles: a simple technique with excellent results

open access: yesJournal of Contemporary Brachytherapy, 2022
Lip carcinoma has been treated for years with low-dose-rate (LDR) brachytherapy, achieving local control greater than 90%. Comparison between LDR and high-dose-rate (HDR) showed that they are equivalently efficient in local control, but HDR results in ...

Orientational correlations and the effect of spatial gradients in the equilibrium steady state of hard rods in 2D : A study using deposition-evaporation kinetics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Deposition and evaporation of infinitely thin hard rods (needles) is studied in two dimensions using Monte Carlo simulations. The ratio of deposition to evaporation rates controls the equilibrium density of rods, and increasing it leads to an entropy ...

The nicotinamide hypothesis revisited—plant defense signaling integrating PARP, nicotinamide, nicotinic acid, epigenetics, and glutathione

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nicotinamide (NIC) and nicotinic acid (NIA) are proposed as stress signaling compounds in plants. Oxidative stress may lead to single strand breaks (SSB) in DNA, which activate poly(ADP‐ribose) polymerase (PARP). NIC and NIA are then formed from NAD. NIC and NIA can promote epigenetic changes leading to the expression of defense genes specific for the ...

COMPARISON OF POSITIVE ASPIRATION DURING INFERIOR ALVEOLAR NERVE BLOCK USING CONVENTIONAL METALLIC DENTAL SYRINGE VS. DISPOSABLE PLASTIC SYRINGE

open access: yesPakistan Armed Forces Medical Journal, 2020
Objective: To compare the frequency of positive aspiration during inferior alveolar nerve blocks using conventional metallic dental syringe and disposable 3cc plastic syringe and to observe the efficacy of aspiration of both syringe systems.

The application of microwaves in essential oil hydrodistillation processes [PDF]

open access: yesChemical Industry and Chemical Engineering Quarterly, 2009
The influence of microwaves pre-treatment of raw plant materials (wooded greenery and fruits of conifers-fir, spruce, pine, juniper and Douglas fir) on the kinetics of the essential oil hydrodistillation using the Unger-type apparatus was studied.

Kinetic Monte Carlo Simulations for Birefringence Relaxation of Photo-Switchable Molecules on a Surface

open access: yes, 2016
Recent experiments have demonstrated that in a dense monolayer of photo-switchable dye Methyl-Red molecules the relaxation of an initial birefringence follows a power-law decay, typical for glass-like dynamics.

Using shared needles for subcutaneous inoculation can transmit bluetongue virus mechanically between ruminant hosts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Bluetongue virus (BTV) is an economically important arbovirus of ruminants that is transmitted by Culicoides spp. biting midges. BTV infection of ruminants results in a high viraemia, suggesting that repeated sharing of needles between animals could ...

C9orf72 ALS‐causing mutations lead to mislocalization and aggregation of nucleoporin Nup107 into stress granules

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutations in the C9orf72 gene represent the most common genetic cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a fatal neurodegenerative disease. Using patient‐derived neurons and C. elegans models, we find that the nucleoporin Nup107 is dysregulated in C9orf72‐associated ALS. Conversely, reducing Nup107 levels mitigates disease‐related changes.
