Radioactive Needlework, Reconstruction of needle-positions in radiation treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Nucletron presented a medical problem to the SWI 2006: how to find needles used for cancer treatment in a prostate? More concretely: how to find the positions of these needles from distorted images from an ultrasound probe?

Using shared needles for subcutaneous inoculation can transmit bluetongue virus mechanically between ruminant hosts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Bluetongue virus (BTV) is an economically important arbovirus of ruminants that is transmitted by Culicoides spp. biting midges. BTV infection of ruminants results in a high viraemia, suggesting that repeated sharing of needles between animals could ...

Loss of proton‐sensing GPR4 reduces tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
G protein‐coupled receptor 4 (GPR4) is a pH‐sensing receptor activated by acidic pH. GPR4 expression is increased in patients with inflammatory bowel disease who are at high risk of developing colorectal cancer. In mouse models, loss of GPR4 attenuated tumor progression. This correlated with increased IL2 and natural killer cell activity.

Morphological and functional features of Scots pine in pine forest stands of the Small Polissia

open access: yesНаукові праці Лісівничої академії наук України, 2019
The paper examines the formation and morphophysiological features of functioning of 27-145-year-old pine forest stands of natural seed origin which grow in dry, fresh, moist, wet, and very wet pine forests of Small Polissia.

Dose‐dependent induction of epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in 3D melanoma models by non‐thermal plasma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Non‐thermal plasma treatment of melanoma cells induced epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in a dose‐dependent fashion. This report highlights the critical need to further investigate potential adverse effects of non‐thermal plasma for cancer therapy and to optimize treatment parameters for clinical translation. Despite the promising results of non‐

Standards for estimating the crown productivity of pine stands within the conditions of the Northern Steppe of Ukraine

open access: yesНаукові праці Лісівничої академії наук України, 2019
The biological productivity of forests is considered as their main characteristic, which determines the course of processes in forest ecosystems. It is used for ecologi-cal monitoring with the constant management of forestry.

Loss of primary cilia promotes EphA2‐mediated endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in the ovarian tumor microenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of primary cilia in endothelial cells promotes EndMT and vascular abnormalities in the ovarian tumor microenvironment through EphA2 activation. Using human samples, in vitro models, and endothelial‐specific Kif3a‐knockout mice, we show that primary cilia loss drives the acquisition of cancer‐associated fibroblast‐like phenotypes, thereby ...

Variation of morphological needle characters of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) populations in different habitats

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2011
We investigated the phenotypic variation of five morphological needle characters of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) in three populations. Two of the populations occurred in bogs and the third one formed a degraded fresh pine forest showing some features

Development of 4T1 breast cancer mouse model system for preclinical carbonic anhydrase IX studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Carbonic anhydrase IX (CAIX) is a well‐recognised therapeutic target and prognostic biomarker in cancer. We developed and characterised a robust murine breast cancer model system that is suitable for CAIX studies in vitro and in vivo—it comprises both CAIX‐positive and CAIX‐negative controls and provides a solid platform for the comprehensive ...
