Social Distance and Affection: A Negative, Negative Correlation

open access: yesThe Psychological Record
Abstract Altruistic behavior is a function of social distance, but why do individuals put others at a particular distance? Social distance is a multidimensional concept, and affection is one of its dimensions. This study evaluated whether there is a negative correlation between social distance and an affection rating.

The role of mental toughness and affect in academic success within a higher education setting

open access: yes
‘Mental Toughness’ is recognised as an important component in academic success (Robinson 2013) represented by the psychological qualities that determine how challenges are effectively addressed in pressurised situations (Dewhurst et al. 2012).

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Negative affect-induced food intake in non-dieting women is reward driven and associated with restrained-disinhibited eating subtype

open access: yes, 2011
In humans the presence of negative affect is thought to promote food intake, but there is widespread variability. Susceptibility to negative affect-induced eating may depend on trait eating behaviours, notably ‘emotional eating’, ‘restrained eating’ and

Differential expression of cancer‐related genes supports prediction of poor response to first‐line treatments in T‐ALL pediatric patients with high minimal residual disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

The power of positivity: Exploring affective and social processes of change throughout a positive valence treatment for anxiety or depression

open access: yesJournal of Mood and Anxiety Disorders
Objective: Social disconnection is common and disabling in persons with anxiety or depression, yet remains underexplored in treatment research. Proposed mechanisms underlying social disconnection include heightened negative valence system activation ...

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Predictor factors for teacher innovative behavior during curriculum reform: The role of cognitive flexibility, positive affect, and negative affect

open access: yesREID (Research and Evaluation in Education)
Teacher innovative behavior is a key capability for maximizing teacher performance as well as the student learning process, especially when teachers face new changes in their education system such as curriculum reform. However, insufficient attention has
