On Allocations with Negative Externalities

2011
We consider the problem of a monopolist seller who wants to sell some items to a set of buyers. The buyers are strategic, unit-demand, and connected by a social network. Furthermore, the utility of a buyer is a decreasing function of the number of neighbors who do not own the item.

Evaluation of Negative Externality by Pollutees

Environment and Planning C: Government and Policy, 1996
The use of water polluted by municipal and industrial waste for irrigating crops grown in Oguzeli (Gaziantep) creates significant problems in terms of crop and soil quality, human health, and the environment. The behavioral patterns of farmers is believed to be an important factor in solving environmental problems.

Heterogeneity risks and negative externality

Economic Modelling, 2020
Abstract Diversified institutions coexist in financial markets with different degrees of exposure and contribution to the systemic risk. Therefore, the identification and regulation of systemically important institutions are of great significance.

Mechanism and Network Design with Private Negative Externalities

Operations Research, 2017
A revenue-maximizing monopolist is selling a single indivisible good to buyers who face a loss if any of its rival buyers obtain it. The rivalry is modeled through a network, an arc between a pair of buyers indicates that a buyer considers another buyer its rival, and the magnitude of the loss is the private information of each buyer.

Negative Externalities May Cause Delay in Negotiation

Econometrica, 1995
Summary: We study the strategic equilibria of a negotiation game where potential buyers are affected by identity-dependent, negative externalities. The unique equilibrium of long, finitely repeated generic games can either display delay -- where a transaction can take place only in several stages before the deadline -- or, in spite of the random ...

The Coase Theorem as a Negative Externality

Journal of Economic Issues, 1992
In contested property rights to resources, such as those of oceans, the assignment of property rights by legal rules is allocatively neutral because all externalities are internalized. This allocative neutrality doctrine, or the Coase Theorem [1960], can be thusly summarized: Under perfect competition, and in the absence of income effects and ...

Efficient Auctions with Identity-Dependent Negative Externalities

International Joint Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems, 2018
We investigate a class of single-item multi-supply auctions (including digital goods auctions with unlimited supply) with bidders who have identity-based negative externalities. In such an auction, each bidder has a set of competitors. Her private valuation from winning an item decreases with the number of her winning competitors.
