Topology Preserving Non-negative Matrix Factorization for Face Recognition
IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2008In this paper, a novel topology preserving non-negative matrix factorization (TPNMF) method is proposed for face recognition. We derive the TPNMF model from original NMF algorithm by preserving local topology structure. The TPNMF is based on minimizing the constraint gradient distance in the high-dimensional space.

Hemispheric Differences in the Perception of Positive and Negative Faces
International Journal of Neuroscience, 1985Thirty-two right-handed subjects (15 males and 17 females) participated in a study investigating the effects of the perception of positive and negative emotional stimuli on choice reaction time. Slides of faces showing positive (happy, surprise) or negative (anger, disgust, sadness) affect were presented via a tachistoscope to either the right or left ...

Gram-negative folliculitis of the face
Clinical and Experimental Dermatology, 1979Summary A case of E. Coli folliculitis of the face is presented. Unlike many of the reported cases, there was no preceding history of tetracycline therapy. The condition could be attributed to long term use of a hexachlorophene preparation.

The Negative Effects of Whitening Transformation in Face Recognition
2009 Second International Symposium on Computational Intelligence and Design, 2009Whitening transformation has widely been used in face recognition. Typically it is used in one of four ways: as a data preprocessing tool before feature extraction, to calculate statistically uncorrelated discriminant vectors, as a transitional step in calculating discriminant vectors, or as a data post-processing tool after feature extraction.

Face Management and Negative Strengthening
2021Negated gradable adjectives often convey an interpretation that is stronger than their literal meaning, which is referred to as ‘negative strengthening.’ For example, a sentence like ‘John is not kind’ may give rise to the inference that John is rather mean.

Non-negative Matrix Factorization for Face Recognition
2002The computer vision problem of face classification under several ambient and unfavorable conditions is considered in this study. Changes in expression, different lighting conditions and occlusions are the relevant factors that are studied in this present contribution.

Is Malaysia Facing Negative Deindustrialization?
Pacific Affairs, 2011This paper seeks to examine whether Malaysia is facing negative deindustrialization by examining value-added, trade and productivity trends over the period 1990-2005. The evidence produced in the paper is concrete enough to confirm that Malaysia is facing negative deindustrialization. While it is typical, as part of the process of structural change, to

The two faces of Cdk8, a positive/negative regulator of transcription
Biochimie, 2014Three cyclin dependent kinases, Cdk7, Cdk8 and Cdk9 are intimately connected with the processes of RNA polymerase II dependent transcription initiation and elongation in eukaryotic cells. Each of these kinases is part of a larger multisubunit complex, TFIIH, Mediator and p-TEFb respectively.

Fast Non-Negative Matrix Factorizations for Face Recognition
International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, 2017Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF), as a promising image-data representation approach, encounters the problems of slow convergence and weak classification ability. To overcome these limitations, this paper, based on different error measurements, proposes two kinds of NMF algorithms with fast gradient descent and high discriminant performance.

The influence of positive and negative facial expressions on face familiarity
Memory, 2007Recent studies have shown that smiling faces are judged as more familiar than those showing a neutral expression (Baudouin, Gilibert, Sansone, & Tiberghien, 2000). Here we compare judged familiarity of unknown and famous faces when displaying a positive, neutral, or negative expression.
