Negative Refraction in Indefinite Permittivity Medium

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics 2010, 2010
We present theoretical calculations and experimental results demonstrating the negative refraction in indefinite permittivity medium based on SiO 2 -SiC- SiO 2 multi-layer structure. Also the enhancement of higher order Fourier harmonics has been experimentally shown.

Negative indefinites and split-scope readings

2022
AbstractNegative indefinites (NIs) in languages such as Dutch and German may give rise to so-called split-scope readings. Sentences like German Du musst keine Krawatte anziehen (‘you must wear no tie’) have a reading where the modal takes scope in between the negation and the indefinite.

Coping with indefinite and negative data in deductive databases: A survey

Data & Knowledge Engineering, 1987
Abstract A problem with current database systems is the limitation placed on the type of data which may be represented and manipulated within such systems. In an attempt to broaden this to a wider class of data (i.e. rules as well as facts) and a more powerful set of manipulations, the concept of a deductive database was introduced.

A Typology of Negative Indefinites

2009
Chapter 3 investigated ways in which languages convey negation by means of an expression that corresponds to the first-order logic connective ¬. In English this would be not. Negation can also be attracted to other expressions in the sentence, particularly indefinites in argument or adjunct position (Section 1).

Handling indefinite and negative data in a deductive database

Data & Knowledge Engineering, 1991
Abstract We introduce the notion of a minimal interpretation of an indefinite deductive database and present a closed world metarule based on this notion with which negative data may be inferred from the database. We also investigate a possible implementation of our metarule using a path checking algorithm adapted from Bibel's connection method.

Negativity indices for definite and indefinite Sturm‐Liouville problems

Mathematische Nachrichten, 2010
AbstractVarious notions of indices for definite and indefinite Sturm‐Liouville problems are introduced and relations between them are investigated (© 2010 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Negative index and indefinite media waveguide couplers

Applied Physics A, 2007
We study the coupling interaction between dielectric waveguides and coupling elements made from negative-refracting media. The coupling configuration consists of a length of dielectric waveguide, which terminates either directly into or near a planar layer composed of the negative-refracting medium, and is followed by a second waveguide.

Sentential Negation and Negative Indefinites

2009
This chapter integrates the results on sentential negation (from Chapter 3) with the analysis of negative concord and double negation (from Chapter 4). Section 1 develops the classification of co-occurrence restrictions between sentential negation and negative indefinites in negative concord and double negation languages. The grammar of negative spread

The grammaticalization of negative indefinites

2014
This chapter traces the diachronic evolution in Medieval French of two temporal/aspectual n-words of adverbial origin, the markers mais (< Lat. MAGIS ‘more, to a greater degree’) and plus (< Lat. PLUS ‘more’), equivalent to English
