Focusing and negative refraction in anisotropic indefinite permittivity media

SPIE Proceedings, 2009
Materials that exhibit negative refraction demonstrate physical phenomena that may be used for novel applications. This work serves to evaluate the possibility of hyperbolic focusing due to an indefinite anisotropic permittivity tensor. Two single-loop antennas were used to approximately achieve a transverse magnetic (TM) point source and detector ...

Indefinite permittivity and negative refraction in natural material: Graphite

Applied Physics Letters, 2011
In this work, we report a nature indefinite permittivity in crystalline graphite that exhibits negative group refraction at ultraviolet region. A hyperbolic equifrequency contour was obtained from ellipsometry data at 254 nm and an all angle negative refraction was verified experimentally.

A Typology of Negative Indefinites

2009
Chapter 3 investigated ways in which languages convey negation by means of an expression that corresponds to the first-order logic connective ¬. In English this would be not. Negation can also be attracted to other expressions in the sentence, particularly indefinites in argument or adjunct position (Section 1).

Sentential Negation and Negative Indefinites

2009
This chapter integrates the results on sentential negation (from Chapter 3) with the analysis of negative concord and double negation (from Chapter 4). Section 1 develops the classification of co-occurrence restrictions between sentential negation and negative indefinites in negative concord and double negation languages. The grammar of negative spread

Handling indefinite and negative data in a deductive database

Data & Knowledge Engineering, 1991
Abstract We introduce the notion of a minimal interpretation of an indefinite deductive database and present a closed world metarule based on this notion with which negative data may be inferred from the database. We also investigate a possible implementation of our metarule using a path checking algorithm adapted from Bibel's connection method.

The grammaticalization of negative indefinites

2014
This chapter traces the diachronic evolution in Medieval French of two temporal/aspectual n-words of adverbial origin, the markers mais (< Lat. MAGIS ‘more, to a greater degree’) and plus (< Lat. PLUS ‘more’), equivalent to English no more/no longer, anymore/any longer, with a view to addressing two theoretical issues: (i) whether the evolution ...
